Brett Ratner Had The Midas Touch: The Mogul's Beginning

Brett Ratner's illustrious career started in New York, directing music videos. Upon arriving in Hollywood, Brett Ratner was soon under the wing of legendary producer, Robert Evans. At his height as head of Paramount Studios, Brett Ratner's mentor Robert Evans had produced classics Chinatown, Rosemary's Baby, The Godfather and Love Story. To be mentored by Robert Evans was like being anointed and blessed by the Pope; it was Hollywood royalty, but pride goeth before the fall. The mini mogul is now a pariah. Perhaps what we are seeing in Hollywood, with the moguls and producers being outed by women for sexual harassment, is the end of the boys club era.

Shots fired: Sexual Harassment Claims Against Brett Ratner

2017 has been a bad year for Hollywood golden boy, director, and producer, Brett Ratner. No less than six women have come forward with sexual harassment allegations against him; two of which are high profile actresses. Natasha Henstridge recently went public in a live interview with Megyn Kelly on the Today show, claiming that in the early 1990s when she was 19, she was forced into giving him oral sex. Olivia Munn detailing how in 2005, she was visiting the set of 'After The Sunset' and delivered a meal to Brett Ratner's trailer, only to find him without pants and masturbating. Jaime Ray Newman was on a flight to the set of 'Supernatural' in 2005 when Brett Ratner switched seats with his assistant in order to sit next to her, where he lewdly described how he wanted to give the young actress oral sex. Katharine Towne is the daughter of legendary Chinatown screenwriter Robert Towne. She was at an A-list party at a private home, when Brett Ratner pursued her aggressively, following her into the bathroom. Eri Sasaki was a background actress on 'Rush Hour 2' in 2001, when Ratner allegedly asked her to go to the bathroom with him for sex, in exchange for a line in the movie. Jorina King was a background actress on 'Rush Hour 2' and was hand-picked by Ratner to come to his trailer to discuss her getting a line in the movie and when they were alone, he asked her to show him her breasts. For background actors, they are often the lowest on the totem pole on a movie production. When Eri Sasaki and Jorina King entered into 'Rush Hour 2', they were there to do their jobs and had a terrible experience on set, if true. The only comment from Brett Ratner on Olivia Munn, Jaime Ray Newman, Katharine Towne, Eri Sasaki or Jorina King, is from Rattner's lawyer, Marty Singer, who denies all claims against his client.

“He walked out with his belly sticking out, no pants on, shrimp cocktail in one hand and he was furiously masturbating in the other and before I literally could even figure out where to escape or where to look, he ejaculated.”

Ratner Power Director

Brett Ratner reaped rewards for his on-screen work. The sexual harassment off-screen is threatening Ratner's reputation and income, in 2017.

Close Quarters In A Small Town

The hardest thing for an actress is to get a job in Hollywood. And if you are lucky enough to move up the ladder, like Natasha Henstridge and Olivia Munn; imagine what it's like to see the person that sexually harassed you, at industry events? Olivia Munn and Natasha Henstridge both balked at projects involving Brett Ratner over the years. Each kept a secret, to see the alleged predator flourish. Also, Katharine Towne is the daughter of Hollywood royalty. If the daughter of a legendary screenwriter isn't safe, it begs the question about a lack of ethical behavior, both on and off the set. For young starlets such as Jaime Ray Newman and Eri Sasaki and anyone who comes up after them; here's hoping the new order of business in Hollywood, is to maintain lawful codes of conduct, going forward. At the very least, let's hope young actresses like Jaime Ray Newman, Katharine Towne and Eri Sasaki are entering into a safer movie business and sexual harassment is a thing of the past.

“I've made specific, conscientious choices not to work with Brett Ratner. It feels as if I keep going up against the same bully at school who just won't quit,” she said. “You just hope that enough people believe the truth and for enough time to pass so that you can't be connected to him anymore.”

It will be interesting to see what the stockholders of both companies do, to protect their investments, in the coming months.

Blockbuster Go-To Guy Takes Major Dip In Net Worth

Brett Ratner is the go-to guy in Hollywood and his resume as a director and producer reads like a who's who. He's a more than capable producer and director and has helmed 'Rush Hour', 'X Men - The Last Stand', 'Hercules' and 'Tower Heist', 'Horrible Bosses' and Oscar-winning pictures 'The Revenant' and Sandra Bullock's 'Gravity', to name a few. His body of work goes back to 1998 and so far, he's not stopped producing, for multiple studios. Ratner had a first look deal at Warner Brothers worth around $450 million dollars. Ratner is the CEO of Ratpac, which was the financier who funded the Sandra Bullock blockbuster, 'Gravity'. Rolling into 2018, Brett Ratner was set to produce a bio-pic on Playboy's Hugh Hefner, starring Jared Leto. Since the allegations became public, Leto's rep Robin Baum released a statement denying his attachment to the project. According to Variety, Ratner's deal with Warner Bros was due to expire in March 2018 and won't be renewed. Losing out on several deals in addition to the Warner Bros deal certainly has affected Ratner's net worth for the foreseeable future, as projects are being dropped and people are backing away from inking new deals until the smoke clears.

“In light of the allegations being made, I am choosing to personally step away from all Warner Bros-related activities. I don’t want to have any possible negative impact to the studio until these personal issues are resolved.”

Ratner's Reputation And Net Worth Take A Hit With New Accuser

In addition to the six women already on record, Brett Ratner is currently suing Melanie Kholer for defamation of character after she posted on Facebook her claims that he raped her. Brett Ratner's Sexual Harassment Scandal - Is It The End Of Mad Men?

When A-lister actresses put the kibosh on working with Ratner; that speaks volumes. Look, I do believe that people are innocent until proven guilty. Right now, what we have on Brett Ratner is allegations, which he vehemently denies through his lawyer, Marty Singer. In a town teaming with hopefuls, Hollywood has always represented a Gatsby-like fantasy and very few get to grasp the golden ring of success. Hollywood has always been the wild, wild west of social mores, stretching back to the days of Zanuck and Co running the town from its infancy in the 1920's to today. The jury is still out on whether Ratner is just a target, or if the allegations are true. But, boy does the gun look loaded. With Natasha Henstridge and Olivia Munn coming forward to back the claims of background actors Eri Sasaki and Jorina King, the question to be begged is: why would they lie about something so clearly personal and mortifying? None of them have filed suit against Ratner. They are not seeking remuneration. The only party to file a lawsuit is Brett Ratner, for defamation of character. Brett Ratner has hired an industry stalwart Marty Singer to defend him. And he is doing his job very well. The point is if the allegations are true - seven accusers to date have come forward - nobody really wins. The deed has been done on both sides of the fence and all we have in the end is hope. Hope that for once, history will be on the side of protecting women in the workforce; instead of brushing the debris under the carpet. To those that are cringing because yet another powerful male is being called to task, perhaps this moment in time will shine, as a reflection of the times. The pendulum is swinging wildly towards speaking out, instead of filing suit, which in the end is far more powerful. It lends weight to any claim that comes from a desire to be free of a dark truth, without seeking any monetary compensation for it. This is an era that neither men or women are allowing themselves to be a target. It was not so long ago, as women, we fought for the right to vote and enter the workforce. What we didn't foresee, is a lack of protection when we did so. Only time will tell if Ratner's career can be resuscitated because, like Harvey Weinstein, he is considered persona non grata, until further notice.
