Antonoff was a sophomore in high school when he was in his first band

Jack Antonoff lived in New Jersey, and commuted with his sister to a high school in Manhattan. When he was just a sophomore in high school, he formed his first band called "Outline." At 15-years-old, Jack Antonoff and one of his band mates found a way to book their first tour of a large number of shows across many states as far as Florida and Texas. Antonoff borrowed his parents' minivan to embark on the adventure. The band lasted from 1998 to 2002, and Antonoff credits that tour to the beginning of his passion for being on tour.

A tragic interruption

When Jack Antonoff was just a senior in high school, his sister died of brain cancer at the age of 13. Soon after, a close cousin was killed in the Iraq War. Antonoff had a difficult period in dealing with the grief and shock he felt. He has explained that he uses his love of music to cope with the loss.

Love of music

Every time Jack Antonoff creates music, he creates an attention-grabbing soundscape for his fans to enjoy. After his first band dis-banded in 2002, Antonoff went on to create another band. Antonoff was the lead singer of the band Steel Train, which included four other bandmates. The band signed a record deal with Drive-Thru Records. In 2008, Jack Antonoff, Nate Ruess, and Andrew Dost formed a new band called fun. The bandmates had all toured together while in previous bands, so they were well acquainted. They released their first album, "Aim and Ignite" in 2009. The band reached the height of their career when they produced their first number one hit-single with the song, "We Are Young" from their second album, "Some Nights." The hit song, "We Are Young," won a Grammy Award for Song of the Year. In 2013, fun.'s song "Sight of the Sun" was released on the first soundtrack released from the TV show "Girls." The same year, he co-wrote the song "Brave" with Sarah Bareilles. The song was a huge success. The music video has been viewed over one million times. After the song's release in April, by the end of June it had sold over 106,000 copies. Later in 2013, Antonoff co-wrote a song with Taylor Swift titled "Sweeter than Fiction." The song was written and recorded to be featured in the film "One Chance." In September of 2013, fun. had the opportunity to play with their longtime heroes, the band Queen. The band then released a free six-song EP. Once 2014 hit, Antonoff was ready to go solo. He began his solo project, Bleachers. He'd been considering the project for over 10 years, and his first single, "I Wanna Get Better," was well-reviewed. The song was then featured as number 18 on Rolling Stones's 50 Best Songs of 2014. Antonoff co-wrote and co-produced three songs for Taylor Swift's 2014 album "1989." He participated in the songs, "Out of the Woods," "I Wish You Would," and "You Are In Love." The ablum went on to be the top grossing album of 2014. Antonoff's hit songs have been appreciated by crowds everywhere. In 2016, Antonoff had a role in the movie "Hello, My Name is Doris." The movie follows a woman in her 60s who is attracted to a younger co-worker. Jack Antonoff played the role as a band member in the fictional band, Baby Goya. "Hello, My Name is Doris," grossed over 14 million dollars on a 1 million dollar budget. This year, Jack Antonoff co-wrote and produced Lorde's newest Album, "Melodrama." The album has been considered as the best album of 2017 by many.
