She attained her first podium in March 2013 with a second place in slalom at Ofterschwang. In 2016, she won the World Cup crystal globe title in the combined discipline. He trained in the club Skiclub Drusberg under coach Hans Flatscher who is a national level coach and Alois Prenn. Her brother Kevin represented Switzerland in alpine skiing at the 2010 World Junior Championships in Megeve, France. In early September 2013, Holdener fell while riding her scooter and broke her right arm. She took up the sport at age three. Her first race was at age nine. She regards winning gold medal in the alpine combined at the 2017 World Championships in St. Moritz, Switzerland as her major achievement. Holdener won a bronze medal in combined event at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. She won a silver medal at the slalom and a gold medal in team event at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. In the 2017, World Championships in St. Moritz, Holdener won a silver medal at Slalom and gold medal in combined event. She also won a bronze medal at the giant slalom event at the 2011 Junior World Ski Championships in Crans Montana along with a silver medal in downhill during the same competition.

An interview with the ski racer

During the 2018 Olympic Winter Games, Holdener was interviewed. She has a great ability to multi-task both on and off the slope and the interviewer was more than happy to get a little candid with her in a rare interview given by the sporting celebrity. Wanting to know a bit about her personal choices, the interviewer asked her whether she loved to listen to Frank Sinatra's music to which she replied saying no. Frank Sinatra's music is not her type. Wendy Holdener has won medals in combined, DH and GS and it wouldn't be wrong to call her a 'triple threat'. When asked to name three other things that she is good at apart from alpine skiing, she replied, "I’m really good at enjoying my free time – for me that’s a treat. 2. I really like playing football (soccer) but unfortunately I do not have much time for this hobby of mine any more. 3. I am also pretty good at organizing my life myself." She added that there are three other things that she is not very good at and they are her inability to speak French fluently, she is very impatient and she often does not hear her phone ringing. Wendy Holdener had success in all five alpine events last season across the board, from FIS races to Junior Worlds, to Europa Cup and even World Cup. The interviewer asked her whether she sees herself as a five-event racer? She replied saying that she does consider herself as an al-rounder but is not equally strong in all disciplines. She first desires to establish herself in slalom and only later would try and work up on to the top of other events. She was asked whether she was surprized taking home three medals from the Worlds, to which she smiled and replied, "Yes, I was very surprised and definitely was not expecting that. In the downhill I was hoping for a medal after taking 4th in training twice and was then very happy with my 2nd place. In giant slalom I dreamt about a medal but with bib number 23 I just concentrated on skiing well and achieving a good result. When I was in the finish and saw that I had posted the 3rd best time I was speechless. In the 2nd run I went for it and was elated to be able to defend my 3rd place. I was very happy and surprised about that. In the slalom on the next day I could only beat myself because slalom is my best event. Unfortunately it was only enough for th 4th place. But for that I won the combined ranking." Holdener won her Junior World medals over three days and almost had a fourth medal when you finished in 4th place in Slalom. She was asked that how did she get the energy to be so successful in such a short span of time. Holdener said that she was already awaiting for the Junior Worlds with eager anticipation. She added that the atmosphere in the team was superb and that she was feeling good. Her family and friends supported her through her entire time. Holdener has the rare ability to ski successfully in technical and speed events. The interviewer wanted to know her secret and also if she has any advice for the aspiring racers. She replied that there is certainly no secret. She added that one must be able to do whatever one feels like doing.
