Arianna Fontana is an Italian athlete who was born in Italy in 1990.She began inline skating at age four in Sondrio, Italy, and took up short track in Valmalenco, Italy because she followed her older brother Alessandro into the sport. He started skating a year before her. She competes in short track speed skating and she recently won a gold medal at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in the 500 m event. While she specializes in 500 m event she also won a silver medal in the short track speed skating at the 2018 Olympics. At the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, she won a bronze medal in the 3000 m relay while placing 11th in the 500 m and 6th in the 1000 m. At the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, she won a bronze medal in the 500 m event but was eliminated in the semifinals of the 1500 m event, and was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the 1000 m event. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, she was upgraded from a bronze medal to a silver medal in the 500 m event after she collided with British skater Elise Christie. Christie was disqualified after causing a crash in the final. She won a bronze medal in the 1500 m event and also in the Team-event. In October 2017, Fontana was named as Italy's flag bearer for the opening ceremony of the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea. She won her first Olympic gold medal here, in the 500 m event.

She is married to Anthony Lobello Jr. Antholy Lobello Jr. is an American short track speed skater who competed for the United States at the 2006 Winter Olympics and for Italy at the 2014 Winter Olympics. She can speak English and Italian and she trains under coach Kenan Gouadec. When asked about her injuries if any, she replied saying that once at the age of 12, she broke her ankle and was unable to skate for three months. She defines her memorable achievement when she won the overall competition at the 2008 European Championships in Ventspils, Latvia. She regards the Italian motorcycle racer Valentino Rossi as her hero. She did not compete for a significant part of the 2015/16 season. "I was pretty tired mentally. My body was ready to race again but my mind was not. It was hard for me. After the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi I had some doubts about whether to keep skating or not. Maybe it would have been better to take that year right after the Olympic Games off, but I decided to keep going. It is not that I regret it but I had some hard times that season. So I was like, it is better that I really take a step back so I can just focus on myself, my family and friends and spend some time with them," Fonatana said in an interview.
