What is Manuka honey?

If I ever go missing just look for the trail of Manuka honey 🍯 I’ve shared a handful of times how much I love honey face masks 〰️ I do them 3-4 times a week (either with straight honey or a combo with Greek yogurt & lemon - I’ll link that now in my #InstagramStory). The key is using an #organic RAW 16+ UMF (Unique Manuka Factor). I use @wedderspoonofficial on my face + neck for 30-40 minutes then wash off with warm water. Some of the benefits of #ManukaHoney for your skin: 🔸 anti-inflammatory 🔸 promotes collagen growth 🔸 helps skin retain moisture 🔸 promotes healing acne + eczema 🔸 reduced redness 🔸 all natural Any other honeycombs out there? 🙋🏼‍♀️ #HungryBlonde #HoneyBlonde

You may be wondering what exactly Manuka honey is. Well, Manuka honey is honey produced from the flower of a Manuka tree. It is harvested in New Zealand and is often used as a medicine because of its great anti-bacterial qualities. It is made up of amino acids, sugars, vitamins and minerals, and hydrogen peroxide and methylglyoxal. All these ingredients work well together to prevent acne and breakouts.

Manuka honey is great for acne. Due to its anti-inflammatory qualities, is has been proven to work in lessening the looks of redness and swelling that occur from pimples and cysts. In addition, Manuka honey can reduce scarring and is great for hydrating skin. It can balance your skins pH levels and keep it clean overall.

It is great for prevention of acne, especially when it comes to reducing the look and appearance of painful, bright red pimples. It can even clean out your pores, which are often the cause of unwanted blackheads and whiteheads. Your face will be positively glowing after you start using the Manuka honey.

However, like any and all acne products, Manuka honey doesn't work for everyone. The best way to see if it works for you is just to try it. There shouldn't be any negative side effects from it unless you are allergic to it. Allergic reactions don't generally occur, but if they do it is most likely because you are allergic to bees or pollen, not the honey itself.

So, check out four different ways to use Manuka honey to heal your skin and prevent acne.

Okay so a bit of a different comparison here! The left is one month pre roaccutane and the right is today (11 months post roaccutane). You can obviously see the difference in texture on my cheeks and forehead!! Looking back at the picture from pre roaccutane makes me so sad because I know how horrible and worthless my skin was making me feel 😭 it’s horrible that we think of ourselves that way in that moment and our skin shouldn’t define us but all my fellow acne sufferers will understand it. So like I’ve said so many times....if you’ve reached that point and roaccutane is your last resort then take it....it’s still the best thing I’ve done and I don’t regret it even slightly because the girl on the right has confidence for days and doesn’t need to hide because she is embarrassed anymore 💁🏼‍♀️ #roaccutane #accutane #roaccutanediary #accutanediary #roaccutanejourney #accutanejourney #roaccutaneproblems #accutaneprogress #accutanecommunity #accutaneresults #roaccutaneresults #progress #makeup #cysticacne #coverup #acne #acnefree #acnehelp #acnescars #acneproblem #acnecommunity #Adultacne #11monthspost #photooftheday #glasgow #scotland

There are several ways to use Makua honey to benefit your acne prevention and one way is to make a cleanser out of it. This is a great option because it helps remove bacteria and softens the skin on your face. The cleanser is also a good option for those with more sensitive skin because it is less harsh. You will love love love this cleanser and will be amazed by what it will do for your face.

For the facial cleanser, put a dime sized amount of Manuka honey on your skin and rub it in. You can put it straight onto your face, or you can dilute the honey in your palm with a bit of water first. Either way, it will have the same effects for your acne and your skin. The water helps the honey be more spreadable and gentler on the skin. This method even helps with scars from acne.

After your massage, the honey into your skin for about 30 seconds, wash it off. Since it is honey and it is sticky, the easiest way to wash off would to just take a shower, but you can also stand at the sink and splash your face about forty times. Use a washcloth to ensure complete removal. When it is all washed away, pat dry and take a look at your skin! Ah, so soft, so bright, so totally awesome.

This cleanser is great because it removes the red pigmentation from your acne after a few uses. The irritation goes down, the redness is reduced, and overall, you will look great and feel great about your skin. Check out some before and after pictures above!

Making a Manuka honey face mask

Another great way to use Manuka honey for acne prevention is to make a Manuka honey face mask. The mask is great for scars and irritation, as well as brightening your skins natural pigmentation and creating a natural glow. The antibacterial qualities are great and you will be so relaxed after using this mask one to two times a week.

There are a couple different ways to us Manuka honey as a mask and the first way is simple: just put the Manuka honey on your skin. You are going to want to make sure your face is clean and free of any moisturizers or makeup, then apply a thick layer of Manuka honey to your face. Massage into your skin and leave on for 30 minutes to an hour. For first time use, the less time is better, then as you understand how your skin reacts to the Manuka honey, you can leave this face mask on for longer periods of time. In fact, the longer you leave it on, the more effective it is for acne prevention and scar fading. Now when you're done, wash your face with some warm water and pat dry. Smile at your new, soft skin!

A second way to use Manuka honey as a mask is to add some extra ingredients in there. For this facemask, the ingredients are:

-1/2 tablespoon of ground oats
-1 teaspoon of lemon juice
-2 tablespoons of Manuka honey (or more, depending on how thick you want the mask to be)

Apply the mask to a clean face and then leave on for fifteen to twenty minutes. Wash off with warm water and then pat your face dry.

While Manuka honey is great for acne masks and cleaners, the honey is also a great and effective overnight treatment. This treatment will work wonders for your acne because of the extra antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects. This treatment is also one of the best for acne scars and for dry skin. It will also leave the natural pigmentation of your skin bright and glowing. This differs from the mask because as opposed to a thick layer of the honey on your face, you will apply a much thinner layer.

For this overnight Manuka honey acne and scar treatment, apply a thin layer to your face and massage it in. It will be sticky (because it is honey ) so if you want to protect your sheets, use a towel on your pillow. Also, if you have long hair, it may be best to put it up for the night to prevent it from getting into the honey on your face. Wash the honey off as soon as you wake up in the morning with warm water and check out your results. Your face will be glowing and will be so soft.

Using Manuka honey as an acne spot treatment

While you can go all nine yards and use Manuka honey all over your face, you can also use the honey as an acne spot treatment. This is a simple and a lot less messy way to use Manuka honey for reduction of acne and redness. It also allows you to keep your jar of honey a bit longer than it would if you were always using it as a face mask.

Wash and cleanse your face (with the Manuka honey or just an ordinary cleanser, up to you) and apply the honey to any acne spots you see on your face. A good tip is, after you apply the honey, cover it with a Band-Aid so they honey won't get wiped away if you touch your face. You can leave the Manuka honey on your skin for 30 minutes or more. You can even leave it on overnight for the best acne freeing results. When you are ready to wash away the honey, simply use warm water and a clean washcloth. Pat dry when you're done.

This great acne spot treatment reduces inflammation and can help your pimples heal a lot quicker than if you just let them be. This honey treatment is also great for lessening the dark pigmentation of acne scars and other facial scars. Check out the before and after pictures above!

Recommended Manuka honey

Manuka honey is one of the best natural treatments for acne but buying the wrong type of honey will not help you at all. A good rule is to look for honey that is UMF 16+, as this will be the best kind for acne and scars. Cheaper doesn't always mean better, so be wary of buying cheaper products with lower UMFs because they just won't work as well for acne prevention.

Remember that Manuka honey is different from any other type of honey that you can purchase from a grocery store or anywhere else. It is a specific type of honey that is produced and packaged in New Zealand. Raw or organic honey is not the same as Manuka honey. The word "active" should also be on the label and the MGO should be at least 250. Overall, just make sure the read the label as it should explain all the benefits (antibacterial, etc.) that the honey should have.

Wedderspoon Organic Manuka Honey is a well-known and reliable brand that you can purchase from Amazon. Other good brands are Comvita Manuka honey (also available at Amazon) and Steens Manuka Honey (also available through Amazon).

Before buying any brand, make sure to read the labels, ingredients, and warnings. Also, check out some customers reviews. Read a good range of 5 star and 1 star reviews to get the best idea of whether or not what you are going to buy is good quality.

Some final acne tips

There are a lot of other ways to prevent acne and get rid of breakouts. Sometimes, treatments just won't help and you may need to go on medicine (either topical or oral) that is prescribed by your dermatologist. However, Manuka honey just might be the best treatment for you. Make sure to do your research on any and all acne products and do not be discouraged if this one doesn't work for you.

Good luck with your Manuka honey acne treatments. Your skin will thank you.
