What Happens At A Pedicure For Men?
In 2020, times are changing and as the new generations are growing up the standards for beauty and gender expression are changing drastically. Traditionally manicures and pedicures are considered to strictly be only feminine activity. Yet with the progressive age, trying out a pedicure can be a wonderful idea for men and boys of all ages. Here is what a pedicure for men consists of and what you need to know before going to get one.
By definition, what is a pedicure? A non-medical procedure in which the toenails and the skin of the feet are treated and groomed to prime condition. In the most basic form, this process includes trimming and cleaning of the toenails, scrubbing off the heels, and moisturizing foot skin. Pedicures are excellent methods of maintaining foot hygiene and health.
The Cost Of A Pedicure For Men
Now comes the question of how much will you have to spend on a pedicure? Different salons and grooming parlors will have varying costs for a pedicure for men. But on average a pedicure may range from as low as 15 dollars to a high point of 50 dollars. You don’t need to spend a lot of money on a fancy salon experience.
Pedicures involve the same basic steps that almost any salon will be able to provide. You can even DIY a pedicure kit for yourself in the comfort and security of your own home. Keep on reading to find out how to accomplish this at home.
In terms of how often you should get a pedicure done, it is utterly up to the personal preference of the individual. Some guys may prefer a weekly session while others think some little foot care every six months can be sufficient. A nice middle ground that I would recommend is going to the nail salon at the end of every month to give yourself a fresh start to the next thirty days of the year.
Before And After Of A Pedicure Session For Men
As a guy, you may not pay a lot of attention to your feet, but other people do. A person with stinky feet or dirty and unruly toenails does not give off a great impression. Good hygiene is equally important for people of all genders and sexualities. Someone who looks like they take care of themselves is seen as attractive even if they do not have conventionally pretty features. Grooming and taking good care of your physical appearance and looks is something that men of the modern age are not going to shy away from.
We guarantee once you experiment and get a pedicure for the first time you will keep coming back for more. In addition to hygiene, pedicures keep your feet healthy and free of infections. All the scrubbing and massages promote blood circulation in those areas. With the complimentary foot massage included in most pedicure offers, you will leave the salon feeling relaxed and fresh.
How To Do A Pedicure For Men At Home?
• What you will need:
- Nail Clippers
- A Nail File
- A Foot Scrub
- Cuticle Pusher
- A Bucket (optional)
- Nail Paint (optional)
- Foot Mask
The first and most obvious step to doing your pedicure is to thoroughly wash your feet. You may use plain soap, body washes, or cleaning gel. It is totally up to you. All methods are equally effective at eliminating dirt from your feet. After the regular wash, pour some warm water into a bucket wide enough to comfortably fit both your feet. You can easily use your bathtub for this, but a bucket is a good alternative if you don’t have one available. Add a teaspoon of salt to the water and two tablespoons of regular shampoo. This will further aid in cleaning your feet. Soak them in the warm water mixture for 2 to 3 minutes.
2. Trim your nails
The heat of the water will allow your pores to open up and the tough skin of your feet and nails to soften. This will be immensely helpful in this next step. Using your nail clippers, trim your nails to whatever length you desire. After cutting the excess nail, take your nail file, and carefully push it under the side of your nail. To get better access, use your fingers to push the skin of the toe away from the nail. Now, scoop out any gunk or dirt that has collected underneath your toenail. Removing the nail file, wipe it on a clean piece of tissue paper or a small towel. Repeat this process for all of your nails and then continue to your other foot.
3. Cuticle Care
For many people, sometimes dead skin tends to collect at the base of the nail. This happens with both your hands and feet. If you remove this layer of dead skin, it will give your feet a much more finessed and neat look. Use a cuticle clipper to cut the skin. Be careful with this as you just want to get the dead skin. It will only hurt if you pinch the healthy skin by accident. After the removal of the cuticle, it is recommended to apply cuticle oil or any moisturizing product as your skin in this area is a bit sensitive after cuticle trimming.
4. Exfoliate your Heels
The heels of your feet are where the hardest skin of your entire body lies. There is a layer of tough cells built there from walking around all day, especially if you walk barefoot in your house. Take a generous amount of your foot scrub and rub it in a circular motion over your entire foot, giving special attention to your heels. Then you may proceed to wash it off or use a brush if you feel like the dead skin has not been completed scrubbed off. In case you don’t have a scrub, no worries. We’ve got you.
Make your scrub by mixing the following basic ingredients into a bowl.
2 parts sugar, 1 part coconut oil (or any moisturizing oil) and 1 part lemon juice
This scrub can be used to exfoliate any area of your body and the best part is it is completely natural and so easy to make. Your skin will be as soft as a baby’s bottom and surely your heels will thank you for it.
5. Apply a Foot Mask
This step is completely optional, but you can find foot masks at any local departmental store. Spread an even layer of the mask over your entire foot and wait an appropriate amount of time before washing it off. The packaging of your mask will have instructions specific to that mask so make sure you give them a careful read. Looking for a cheaper and natural option? No problem! There are plenty of foot mask recipes (using ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen) available with just a tap on your phone. This will restore and replenish all the nutrients in your feet, making them look healthy and squeaky clean.
Lastly, remember to hydrate your skin with a lotion of your choice. To finish things off, apply a moisturizer, and go on about your day with fresh, clean feet.
7. Decorate to your preference
Why must all the fun of nail art just be for the girls? Add a bit of color using a bright nail polish if you so desire. This step is not at all necessary. It is purely for aesthetic purposes and self-expression. Choose whatever works for you and goes with your style.
