20 Natural Ways To Prevent And Stop Your Hair From Falling Out

Hair Loss: A Universal Phenomenon

The subject of hair loss is hardly new to anyone. That's not to say that we all have the understanding of its causes and possible prevention, but it's pretty hard to find anyone who cannot relate to the effect of losing the hair one way or the other. Available facts suggest that most people would at a point or the other experience hair loss, and it is not in all cases that there is a cause for alarm. Your hair falling out can be a natural means by which it rejuvenates itself. Beneath your skin, particularly the dermal layer, lies some special structures called hair follicles. It is these hair follicles in conjunction with certain hormones that regulate hair growth. As it is, if you experience hair growth in any part of your body and you refuse to trim or cut it, some of those hairs would naturally fall out by themselves to allow for the growth of new ones. This is what is called the hair shedding cycle. Some studies have revealed that many of us lose up to 80 strands of hairs in just a day. If this is what you are experiencing, again, it is good to stress that there is indeed no cause for alarm. And one way you would know if it's your hair that is naturally replacing itself is that you aren't going to become bald or experience hair thinning because the hairs lost would be replaced. Thinning is when you begin to experience a systematic hair loss from the crown and frontal lobe. That out of the way, let's now talk about the hair loss that doesn't belong to the category discussed above and for which many of us have had to battle with. You wake up in the morning, and you find a substantial amount of your hair on the bed or your carpet; it may even be that you are trying to comb your hair and you can see a large portion of it coming out with the comb. That's obviously something worth paying attention to. Read on to know why your hairs fall out.

Reasons Your Hair Is Falling Out

Several reasons can be responsible for your hairs falling out; and for each person, the reason can be different. That's because hair loss can arise as a result of both internal and external factors. For you to be able to stop a menace, you need to know the cause of it. As such, let's take a brief look at some of the proven causes of hairs falling out.

1. Hair Loss Can Be Hereditary

Recall that we earlier mentioned that hair growth is hormone-mediated in that the hair follicles that bring about the process beneath your skin work in conjunction with certain hormones. The expression, or should we say the functioning of hormones, is controlled by genes. As such, let's say any of your parents has genes coding for baldness in them, you can pretty much inherit them and consequently suffer hair loss. So, when you begin to notice that your hairs are thinning or falling out, before attempting to stop or prevent it, you may want to check if any of your parents or grandparents once suffered hair loss. That's because hair loss or alopecia arising from genetic causes can hardly be prevented or stopped by any natural means.

2. Stress - An Artificial Cause Of Hair Loss

Perhaps you are wondering how stress can lead to hair loss; it's pretty simple to grasp. When you stress yourself beyond your natural threshold, there is a problem with your hormonal balance. Androgens are primarily male sex hormones but are also produced in females howbeit in a very small quantity. An increase in the production of androgen in the body has been implicated in hair loss. So, this is where stress comes in; if you undergo too much of mental and physical stress, it can lead to your androgen level being raised (even as a female), and your hair roots become weakened resulting in some hairs falling out.

3. Hormonal Imbalance, Another Cause Of Hair Loss

We've gone earlier to mention hormonal balance in point 2 above, but certain facts have to be added. Just as we have androgens to be male sex hormones, the female equivalents are estrogen and progesterone. Sufficient estrogen is a plus for hair growth. However, there is a level at which your estrogen and androgen must maintain for hair growth to proceed smoothly. Where there is an imbalance, your hair follicles and roots might become extremely sensitive resulting in hair thinning. Perhaps we should mention a few things that can lead to hormonal imbalance; already, we've mentioned stress. Others include menopause, hyperthyroid, ovarian cysts, hypothyroid, menstruation, and pregnancy.

4. Infection Of The Scalp Can Cause Hair Loss

If the skin of your head also known as the scalp is already playing host to certain microorganisms such as bacteria, viruses or fungal, they can tamper significantly with your hair roots thereby weakening them. The result is your hair falling out. Some of the common scalp infections capable of affecting your hair roots include seborrhea dermatitis (red and itchy skin), eczema, dandruff, and psoriasis. So, as you become concerned that your hairs are falling out, you need to be sure your scalp hasn't been infected.

5.Medications, Another Cause Of Hair Loss

There are some health conditions and surgical procedures that may warrant the use of certain medications. While we wouldn't go to the details of such conditions, it must be stated that such medications sometimes have hair loss as some of their side defects. Medications in this category include birth control pills, anticoagulants, thyroid medicines, painkillers such as ibuprofen, anti-inflammatory drugs, drugs for ulcer (famotidine, ranitidine), and other drugs rich in cholesterol. So, if you are on any of the drugs listed above or you are undergoing a procedure such as chemotherapy, your hair loss might be highly connected to them. The medications weaken the hair roots and follicles and eventually result in hair fall out.

6. Alopecia Areata

This is a special kind of autoimmune condition in which the immune system interprets your hair as a non-self and as such, fight against it vehemently. Let's say you have an ingrown hair; this can happen. It's hard to stop or cure hair fall out due to Alopecia Areata because of its connection to the body's immune system.

7. Excessive Hair Processing

Some hair straightening procedures involving the use of certain chemicals such as formaldehyde are capable of damaging the hair follicles and roots resulting in permanent hair loss. That is why patronizing a specialist when planning to groom your hair is necessary. Whichever method of hair grooming you choose, if it becomes excessive, it can lead to your hair falling out. Hairstyling and hair straightening should, therefore, be done every other day.

8. Iron Deficiency & Anemia Can Cause Hair Loss Too

Iron is one of the micronutrients needed by the body for the formation of hemoglobin which is a constituent of the red blood cell. Where there is a shortage of blood owing to the low level of iron, the immediate result can be incessant fatigue and hair loss. Many of the hair loss scenarios in women are not unconnected to this reason. The iron demand of women is a bit higher than the men because of the metabolism that takes place in their body. Foods naturally rich in iron include plantain (especially unripe ones), brown rice, dried fruits and so on.

9. Poor Diet, Another Cause Of Hair Loss

To a very large extent, we are indeed what we eat. A deficiency in diet can also take its toll on our hair. Typically, certain vitamins and proteins are a must for healthy hair growth and as such, must not be found wanting in your diet. One of such vitamins necessary for hair growth is cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12). It's among the nutrients that are naturally found in animal products such as cheese, eggs, and meat. So, it is not unusual to find many vegans lose their hairs because of vitamin B12 deficiency.

10. Thyroid Disorders Too Can Cause Hair Loss

Your thyroid gland situated somewhere in your neck works as a member of the endocrine gland to produce hormones responsible for certain body metabolism. Sometimes, some disorders such as Hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism can surface due to insufficient intake of iodine or even its excess. When any of the disorders thus surfaces, the common experience is hair fall. That's because some of the hormones partake in protein production and oxygen usage in tissues which in turn affects hair growth. Once an imbalance sets in, this is disrupted and can lead to hair loss.

Natural Ways To Prevent & Stop Hairs From Falling Out

We have taken time to itemize some of the prominent causes of hair loss so that when talking about how to prevent and stop it, you can better understand. With hair loss, especially when it is not genetic or as a result of autoimmune responses, prevention is way better than cure. Of course, that is clear enough to understand. Your hairs falling out can affect your self-esteem because of the effect it has on your overall beauty. So, where it can, it should be prevented. That said, there are many ways of restoring your hair even if you have gone totally bald. There is the hair transplant option currently being done to help restore your hair growth just as there are also some medications to that effect too. However, some of these unnatural methods are not only expensive but have some side effects. To this effect, you would want to know how to prevent and stop hair loss naturally. If that is your mission, there is a good news for you; hair fall outs that are not genetic can be prevented and stopped naturally by more than a single method. That means you have an array of options to choose from. In this piece, we shall be considering 20 of such options which can aid your hair growth and at the same time put a stop to hair loss. Here are they.

1. To Prevent Or Stop Hair Loss, Get The Right Diagnosis

Getting the right diagnosis for your hair loss condition is the first step to preventing or stopping it. Already, we have established the fact that two people can be experiencing hair loss but as a result of different reasons. As such, before commencing any method to get those hairs back, you need to ascertain what was responsible for your hair loss in the first place. As we have been emphasizing, if your reason for experiencing hair loss is hereditary, there is hardly any natural method to put a stop to that. If you are really worried that your hair is thinning, you can opt for some other methods but be warned; some of those methods have side effects. To rule out the option of hormonal imbalance, you may have to consult your physician. However, for genetic reasons, just a simple family investigation can help out. Expression of baldness or hair thinning can go as far as the 3rd and 4th generation so you know how depth your investigation should be. If you have details of your maternal grandfather, you may also want to check if he experienced hair fall out too. By and large, together with your doctor, you can get to the root of your hair condition. Apart from hormonal imbalance, your doctor may also want to screen you for stress or some diseases. So, it is only when you have been able to identify the cause of your hair loss that you can effectively tackle it.

2. To Stop Your Hair From Falling Out, Watch Your Diet

With regard to your hair, what you eat and when you eat them matters a lot. There are many people who take care of their hairs more than they do for their stomachs and as such, become frustrated when they discover they aren't getting the desired result. Get this clearly; immediately you start experiencing hair loss, you should check what is/are getting into your stomach. Some vitamins are very necessary for hair growth and you should check your diet to be sure such vitamins aren't missing. Vitamins A, B, C, and E are very paramount to hair growth but among these vitamins, B12 stands out. Feed moderately but regularly on foods rich in vitamin B12 (eggs, meat, etc.) and take a lot of fruits and vegetables. You really need not worry much about these vitamins if you take a wide variety of fruits and vegetables. Hairs are protein-dependent too; these proteins are present in the hair follicles as keratin and a sufficient amount of keratin mean a healthy hair growth. As such, eating a healthy diet consisting of the right proportion of vitamins and proteins is very important in preventing hair loss. As for fat, you only need foods rich in Omega-3-fatty acids (and maybe omega 6 fatty acids too) and they are naturally contained in soy products, flaxseeds, walnuts, canola oil and so on. This, in conjunction with other foods, would help to moisturize your hair thereby preventing your hair from falling out. You need to know also that what you eat is as important as how and when you eat them. For effectiveness, your vegetables must not be overcooked so you don't end up compromising the structural integrity of the vitamins present. Also, breakfast should be taken as and when due so also other meals.

3. To Prevent Hair Falling Out, Say No To Stress

The connection between hair fall and stress cannot be overstated. Stress is the last thing you should cherish if you are trying to prevent hair thinning or fall. That's because, among other things, stress is capable of disrupting your hormonal balance. One drug (to put it so) for stress is exercise. The exercise does not have to be energy-burning; just a daily 30 minutes brisk walk, jogging, or push-ups is okay. That way, you clear your body of some toxins that can build up to aid stress. Again, endeavor to sleep well too. Not getting enough sleep is a good recipe for hair loss. You should make it a habit to be in bed latest by 10 pm. At least, you should also aim at getting 7 hours of sleep every day. Even, apart from preventing hair loss, regular sleep is paramount to your overall health. Another way to say no to stress is to have a daily plan of how you hope to go about your chores. This plan must also be followed so that you don't have a deficit of chores or assignment that may end up putting you under a psychological pressure. When you discipline yourself to do the right thing at the right time, you would have enough time to sleep and exercise and as such, send stress away from you. And with stress out of the way, you can prevent hair loss.

4. Avoid Over-Processing To Prevent Hair Falling Out

Many of the hairstyling processes have a strong connection to hair loss especially those that have to do with using chemicals and heat. The more you subject your hair to these stylings, the more your risk of losing them. As a practice, hair straightening and styling must be done once in a blue moon. The heat emanating from the hair straightener can distort the 3-dimensional structure of the keratin in your hair follicles thereby halting hair growth. Again, the chemicals used especially those that contain formaldehyde can weaken your hair roots and make your hair fall off. A simple washing and re-touching would do in taking care of your hair. Rather than use a hair cream that you aren't familiar with, you can use coconut oil instead. But let's say you don't like the idea of a sticky oily hair, be sure that you don't react to the cream and other products you apply to your hair. As with hair treatment, what works for Mr. A may not work for Mr. B.

5. Use Green Tea & Egg To Stop Hair Falling Out

If you have started experiencing hair fall, one of the ways you can stop it naturally is to use a combination of green tea and eggs. There are lots of antioxidants in green tea which help to put a stop to hair loss and promote hair growth too. And for the egg, it has many of the proteins your hair needs to grow well. To use this home remedy, you would need at least two tablespoons of green tea and an egg yolk. Mix these two things together until you arrive at a creamy frosty mixture. If you suspect that it is too thick, you can add a little bit of green tea to it to dilute it. Having done that, part your hairs and apply the mixture to it and allow it to rest on your scalp and cover your hair with a shower cap. This mixture should be allowed to stay on your hair for at least 30 minutes. At the expiration of the 30 minutes, wash off your hair with cool water. If you do this 2-3 times a week, you can naturally end your hair loss without much stress.

6. Hair Falling Out? Oil Overnight To Stop It

Oiling is among the most talked-about ways of naturally stopping hair loss. The rationale behind it is that the oil of certain plants such as coconuts, castor seeds, and almonds possess certain nutrients and vitamins that aid hair growth and limit hair infections such as dandruff and eczema. This process is, however, to be done overnight to allow the oil stick properly to the hair and scalp. This approach is quite easy to follow; just apply the oil on the troubled area or generally on your hair and leave it that way overnight. In the morning, wash your hair with a shampoo and in the process of doing so, if there are infections, you are likely to wash them off. The oil would have loosened the organism's hold on the hair and scalp. If you don't like the idea that your hair might become sticky as a result of the oil, you can warm the oil and with your finger, apply it to your scalp and massage for quick penetration. In doing this, let the oil get to the roots of your hair. After leaving it for 30 minutes or so, you can then wash off the hair with a regular shampoo.

7. Hair Falling Out? Use Oil Blends To Stop It

Jez (@wearethetrenders): 😍 This is a hair mask from Nutree Brazillian Botox Expert. First of all it smells like bubble gum. Non-greasy but creamy thick like pomade. I applied it on my damp hair from the roots to the tips after shampooing. I left it for about 45 minutes them rinsed it and dried it. I dont normally blowdry or straighten my hair, here in this picture I straightened it. I love the result. My hair feels silky smooth. This quite different from the approach described above in that in this case, you are blending several oils together to stop hair loss. The standard volume for making this blend is 100ml and that means you would be doing some measuring if you are settling for this method. Anyway, here is how it goes. Get 40ml each of coconut and almond oil; 5 ml aroma magic stimulate oil, 5ml aroma magic lavender oil, 3 Vitamin E capsules, and 10 ml of castor oil. These are the things you would add together to get 100ml of blend oil. Apply this mixture to your hair at least 3 times a week and while applying, let it stay in your hair for 30 minutes before washing it off with shampoo.

8. Wash Your Hair Regularly

Washing your hair at least twice a week is a preventive measure against hair loss. This, you can do by using a shampoo or hair cleanser that is compatible with your hair. This regular cleaning keeps your hair from clogs, dirt, or even bacteria build-up that might eventually damage your hair roots thereby causing your hair to fall off. It is not true that regular washing of your hair contributes to hair loss; instead, it is the neglect to keep a hygienic hair that does. Care should, however, be taken in washing and drying so you don't pluck your hairs artificially. Your shampoo of choice too must be mild and compatible with your hair type. Unless you have dandruff, a regular shampoo should do.

9. Be Smart In Selecting Your Hair Product

As some hair losses are as a result of allergic reactions to certain chemicals, it would be great that you are sure of the ingredients your shampoo and other hair care products are made from. Generally, you should run away from products that contain formaldehyde, silicon, sulfate, and paraben because they can harm your hair. Their excessive accumulation on the scalp can damage the hair roots and cause hair thinning and breakage. If you are not sure if a particular product is good for your hair, it's better you ask questions before using it.

10. Watch Your Hair Brush

One of the few things you want to check out when you are experiencing hair thinning or loss is the type of comb or brush you are using on your hair. Hair loss can become worse if you use the wrong type of comb. To prevent further loss of hair, ensure you use a wooden comb with a wide tooth to set free hairs that have become tangled. After this, you can continue with your normal comb or brush. As a precaution, never comb your hair when it is still wet because that is a stage where your hair is vulnerable to breakage and fall out. It behooves you to clean your brush or combs regularly too so you don't introduce microorganisms that can damage your hair roots into your scalp through it. If you have a mild shampoo, you can use it for this purpose.

11. Use Aloe Vera To Stop Hair Loss

Here are three reasons to add aloe vera to your weekly beauty routine. - 🌿IT BALANCES SCALP & REDUCES DANDRUFF. ⇒ Aloe vera moisturizes and balances the pH of your scalp, keeping the foundation for your hair healthy. Because of it's anti-fungal properties, aloe gel can also help reduce dandruff.- 🌿IT KEEPS GUMS HEALTHY. ⇒ If you're at risk for gingivitis or periodontitis, it's time to stock up on aloe vera. The miracle plant can reduce swelling of the soft tissues & reduce the bleeding of the gums. - 🌿IT MAKES A GREAT MOISTURIZER. ⇒ The amino acids inside aloe vera soften hardened skin cells. It also has a protective effect against radiation damage to the skin. - - - - source: @popsugar #thyrovanz #lovely #dentaltip #womenshealth #women #health #healthyliving #skin #hair #gums #nature #whole #beautiful #beauty #tipsandadvice #wellness #healthy #benefits #earth #plant #natural #aloe #active #scalp #dandruff #routine #plantbenefits #aloevera #aloebenefits #tipsandtricks

Although the use of aloe vera in combating hair loss has not been scientifically validated, many people testify that they found the plant useful in putting a stop to hair thinning and loss. The paste, when used with neem powder, has been reported to aid hair growth and keeping the scalp healthy. Using aloe vera to promote hair growth would require that you break the stem and collect the paste. Add some neem powder to this paste including 3 drops of coconut oil. Apply this mixture to your scalp leaving it there for at least 30 minutes. After this, you can wash your hair with shampoo.

12. To Stop Hair Loss, Use Avocado

Avocado is known to contain a lot of vitamins and other nutrients that can help to stop hair loss and thinning. This is achievable by making it into a hair mask. It helps to protect your hair and keep it shinning. To use, get a small quantity of moderately-ripe avocado and mix it with one egg yolk. To this mixture, add a spoon of honey and mix until you get a consistently paste-like mixture. Apply this to your hair especially when you have just washed it and leave it there for at least 30 minutes. Use this approach for 2 weeks and watch how your hair grows back speedily.

13. Fenugreek Seed Hair Treatment

These Indian methi seeds have been used for many decades to promote hair growth and ensure that hair thinning is stopped. If you have access to these seeds, here is how to use it. You would have to first soak the seeds for some hours after which you'll grind it to form a paste. Make a hair mask with it and allow to stay for up to 30 minutes in your hair. You can then wash your hair with shampoo after this. Treating your hair this way for 2 weeks have been reported to stop hair loss and promote hair growth.

14. Drink A Lot Of Water To Prevent Hair Loss

Did you know that water constitutes a large percentage of your hair shaft? Yes, it does. Your hair can start thinning and falling out if you are chronically dehydrated. Apart from your hair being in good condition, sufficient water intake is also good for your overall health. As such, it should be your goal to consume not less than 6 liters of water daily. It helps to keep your scalp hydrated and promote a healthy hair growth.

15. Prevent Hair Loss By Saying No To Smoking

***CALL US TODAY FOR A TOTALLY FREE CONSULTATION*** Virtually every aspect of your oral health is affected by tobacco use, and it doesn't take much for nicotine to do its damage. Telltale signs you may notice immediately include: 1) Stained teeth, from frequent contact with tobacco juice, 2) Periodontitis, as prolonged exposure to tobacco can irritate the gums, 3) Bad breath, when tobacco particles mix with your saliva and other food particles, 4) New cavities, due to the sugar often used to sweeten tobacco products, and 5) Tooth sensitivity, enamel erosion and a decrease in your sense of taste and smell are other possible side effects. As costly as these dental complications may be, it pales in comparison to the lethal threat of cancer. Symptoms Of Oral Cancer: Given that even smokeless tobacco contains well over 20 carcinogenic chemicals, it shouldn't come as a surprise that its use can result in cancer of the mouth, lip, tongue and throat (in addition to many other cancers of the body). Clear warning signs of oral cancer include white or red lesions inside the mouth (typically referred to by dentists as "leukoplakia") that fail to heal over time, but not all symptoms are easily detected without the professional help of your dentist. Tackling Your Tobacco Problem: Seeking professional help is your best bet both to kick your nicotine habit to the curb, as well as to prevent lasting and potentially irreversible damage to your health. Quitting tobacco use likely won't happen overnight, but your dentist can most certainly offer guidance and point you to effective treatments and/or alternatives. ***CALL US TODAY FOR A TOTALLY FREE CONSULTATION***—————————————————————————— #nosmoking #quitsmoking #nicotinefree #preventoralcancer #kickthehabit #smokelesstobacco #sideeffects #leukoplakia #tobaccoproblems #dentist #dentista #dentalcare #oralhealth #healthymouth #dentalhealth #familydentistry #carleighpranedmd #stonefallsdental #stonefallsdentalcare #stlouis #stldentist #edwardsvilleillinois #glencarbonillinois #carpenterillinois #hamelillinois #poagillinois #62025 #62026 #62034

The nicotine present in cigarettes has a lot of damage it does to your system including your hair. Smoking inhibits proper blood circulation to various parts of the body including your scalp. And with blood not getting to your scalp as it should, the immediate result can be hair loss. So, if you smoke, you may have to say bye to it if you want your hair back.

16. Be Careful When Drying Your Hair

There is a proper way of towel-drying your hair after washing it. If in the process of drying your hair, the wrong approach is employed, it can lead to hair breakage. Usually, to dry your hair with a towel, the right way is to gently use your towel to squeeze the leftover water in your hair. Never run your towel through your hair to get it dry quickly; it can lead to hair tangling and breakage.

17. Regulate Your Hormone To Prevent Hair Loss

We have earlier dwelt on the link between hormones and hair growth. If there is a hormonal imbalance namely more of androgens and less of estrogens, hair fall or thinning can result. This hormonal imbalance comes as a result of many reasons which are beyond the scope of this piece. However, you should be informed that you can increase your body's estrogen levels naturally (if you are a female) to keep your hair loss in check. Consuming soy products, organic coffee, phytoestrogens such as ginger and flaxseeds can help increase your estrogen level naturally and aid hair growth. With sufficient estrogen in your system, hair loss can be effectively checked.

18. To Curb Hair Loss, Include Biotin In Your Diet

B vitamins that are water-soluble are called Biotin. The absence of biotin in your diet can lead to your hair becoming brittle and falling off. Biotin keeps the hair strong and resilient. Sources of biotin that can help your hair include walnut, liver, yeasts, etc.

19. Onion Juice Helps To Stop Hair Loss

Onion juice has been used since times past to counteract hair loss. This is made possible by its antibacterial properties and its ability to aid the proper flow of blood. To curb hair loss, blend the onion to obtain the juice and add it to your hair particularly the troubled area. Leave for a while on your hair before washing it off. If you follow this for a week, it is capable of preventing further hair loss and encouraging hair growth.

20. To Prevent Hair Loss, Exercise Regularly

Exercise not only reduces stress but also aid in smooth circulation of blood which is a good way of preventing hair loss. However, the exercise has to be regular and moderate in order to prevent hair loss. Walking some 10,000 steps or 30 minutes daily has been shown to help promote a healthy hair growth.

Final Remarks

The hair plays the role of both protection and beauty. But sometimes, due to several reasons, your hair may start falling out. It's so good a news to know that something can be done naturally to control the trend. The 20 points proposed in this piece would help prevent and stop hair loss if carefully followed. But as earlier noted, know the reason for your hair loss first before attempting to use any of them.
