Nolan as a child
There would be nothing wrong to say that Nolan was born for the filmmaking industry. His passion and unconventional ideas started sprouting at a very young age. Moreover, it was sort of in his blood too. The environment around him while growing up was not any less encouraging. Nolan was born on July 30, 1970, in London. He is the son of an English man, Brendan James Nolan an advertising executive, and his mother, Christina, who worked as a flight attendant and an English teacher, was American. He lived in London and Illinois during his childhood. Hence, he holds both British and US citizenship. When most kids are at an early stage of learning, at the age of seven, Nolan had already started making short films. He used to shoot scenes using his action toys on his father's Super 8 camera. When Stars Wars was released in 1977, Nolan was just eight years old. He was so inspired by it that he created his stop-motion animation called Space Wars as a tribute.
Education and personal life
An 11-year-old aspiring to become a filmmaker is not a something one would believe. But, Nolan had this determination in his mind and heart. There was nothing that could halt his journey towards his goal each day. Certainly, age was never even a contributing factor. He attended Haileybury and Imperial Service College in Hertfordshire. After which, he chose University College London to study English Literature, particularly because of the filmmaking facilities available there. Nolan was the president of the Film society as well. In his college years, Nolan made short films like Tarantella (1989) and Larceny (1995) with his girlfriend, Emma Thomas. The latter is counted as one of the UCL's best short films and also appeared at the Cambridge Film Festival (1996). The Golden Globe winner is now happily married to Emma Thomas, and she works with him as a co-producer in many movies. They have four children, and one of them even appeared in his movie Inception. The family currently lives in Los Angeles. Apart from this, Jonathan, brother of Christopher is also his writing partner in many movies.
His movies and net worth
Nolan's debut Following (1998) brought him enough credibility and recognition that he was able to finance his next big movie, Memento (2000). He received Academy Award and Golden Globe Award nominations. The movie is now preserved in the US National Film Registry. The succeeding years were full of great movies by this amazing director. After the psychological thriller, Insomnia (2002), his next big hit was The Dark Knight Trilogy. During this successful project from 2005 to 2013, Nolan also worked with Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale in The Prestige (2006), and with Oscar winner Leonardo DiCaprio in the science fiction blockbuster Inception in 2010. Interstellar (2014), Man of Steel (2013), Quay (2015), and the most recent Dunkirk (2017) are other major hits directed by Christopher Nolan. Vanity Fair declared him fourth in the list of Hollywood's top earners in the list of 2017. Nolan's wife, Emma Thomas, does not have a set public net worth, as records for her net worth vary from $200,000 to $200 million. In 2011, the couple had a combined net worth of about $93 million, although we're sure that has gone up since then due to their success.
