Hector Juan Samuel, popularly known as "Tico" Torres, was born on October 7th, 1953. The American musician, artist, and entrepreneur is best known as the drummer, percussionist, and a songwriter for the American rock band Bon Jovi. Tico Torres was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2018. Hector Juan Samuel Torres was born in New York, and raised in the Colonia section of Woodbridge Township, New Jersey. His parents, Emma and Hector had emigrated from Cuba in 1948 and since then have settled in New York. Torres studied at the John F. Kennedy Memorial High School in Iselin. He has a sister named Opi. Popularly known as "The Hitman," Tico Torres is a very versatile man and apart from music, also holds an amazing talent in painting. Torres has done various exhibitions for his art since 1994. One of his first successful art show was held at the Ambassador Galleries in Soho, New York. Torres is a self-taught painter and has never had any formal training. He mostly paints very expressive pictures depicting scenes from everyday life and also his life with the band. Donald Trump was also a close friend of Torres and was present at the wedding. The band performed before Eva and her husband with the hit single "Always" during the dance. Career of the musician
Tico Torres loved playing the drums growing up and was a jazz fan as a young man. He studied music with Joe Morello. In 1969, he got the first professional chance to show his talent in playing the drums. He played drums for the psychedelic rock band, Six Feet Under. Later, he played live with Joe Cerisano's R-Band aka Silver Condor in the New Jersey Rock circuit and then also in the studio with Franke and Franke and the Knockouts, Pat Benatar, Chuck Berry, Cher, Alice Cooper and Stevie Nicks, managing to record a total of 26 albums with these artists. He joined Bon Jovi in 1983, but by that time, Torres had already made a name for himself in the rock circuit and as a drummer. The Kiss band auditioned him as a drummer in 1980 after their original drummer Peter Criss had left their band. Torres was the initial choice as a drummer for the glam rock band T. Roth and Another Pretty Face and he also played on their 1980 album Face Facts. Torres found the turning point in his life after he met Alec John Such which playing with the band Phantom's Opera. They became good friends and soon Torres joined Bon Jovi. Bon Jovi, the lead singer of the band was initially put off when he realized that Torres was 9 years younger than him. Jovi later revealed that Torres' charismatic performance attracted him towards him and Jovi loved to watch him perform which eventually led Torres to join the band. Tico Torres, the drummer has also sung the lead vocals on the song, 'Bon Jovi Fans Can't Be Wrong' and has also backed vocals on a couple of the early Bon Jovi tracks, including "Born to Be My Baby" and "Love for Sale".
