Get to know Tico Torres

Growing up, Tico Torres was a jazz fan. He got the opportunity to study music with Joe Morello. He was a self-taught musician till then and little did he imagine that one day he would make it so big in the music industry and would be known as the drummer for band Bon Jovi. Before the joined the American rock band, Bon Jovi, in 1983, he was an established drummer himself and was making a good career drumming for big bands. He got immense knowledge and experience playing with Frankie and the Knockouts, Pat Benatar, Chuck Berry, Cher, Alice Cooper, and Stevie Nicks. Playing with Bon Jovi has been the icing on the cake for the drummer but he is every bit worthy. Bon Jovi asked him to join his band after getting impressed seeing Torres perform live. Hard rock and heavy metal featuring bands were few in Torres' era. The band Bon Jovi was successful in establishing a totally different niche of hard rock one that was quintessentially melodic as well as appealing. The teenage and the youth of that era went berserk with their performances and quickly band Bon Jovi shot to the top most music bands of that era. The band very subtly changed their course and image from the '90s and moved away from metal after entering the millennium. Their music was more of arena-rock and ballads in the recent years. The shift in style was necessary as the audience' choice in music was changing and Bon Jovi was the only band of the 80's pop-metal which is still surviving. In 2002, the band came up with a follow-up to their album 'Crush' called 'Bounce'. Though it did not do as well as 'Crush' it still managed to produce some really good hit singles like 'Everyday' and 'Bounce'. Bon Jovi's ninth studio album, 'Have a Nice Day', hit the stores in September 2005. "Have A Nice Day" was the first hit single off the new album and the second single from the album "Who Says You Can't Go Home", was launched in the U.S. in the spring of 2006. Bon Jovi wrote history by garnering the top most position. It became the first Rock & Roll Band to have a #1 hit on Billboard's Hot Country Chart. On February 11, 2007, Bon Jovi won a Grammy Award, for "Best Country Collaboration with Vocals" for "Who Says You Can't Go Home". In June 2007, Bon Jovi released their next studio album, 'Lost Highway'. The album debuted at number #1 on the Billboard charts. On April 6, 2009, it was announced officially that the Tribeca Film Festival will show a Bon Jovi documentary called 'When We Were Beautiful'. The film chronicles the band on the Lost Highway Tour during 2008. The film is directed by Phil Griffin. In November 2009, Bon Jovi released their latest studio album 'The Circle'. This album too was sold in millions and had a very well reception from the fans. Tico Torres has been consistent with his performances with the band. The band is a living legend today and will remain so in the times to come.
