His World Cup Career Spans 10 Years

Aside from his impressive Olympic medal count and his dominating performance at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games, Eric Frenzel has had a very successful World Cup career. He began competing in World Cup events in 2007, at the age of 19. During this time, he won the gold medal at the Nordic Junior Ski World Championships and since then, he has accumulated 42 individual wins, 8 team wins, 73 individual podiums, 17 team podiums, 175 individual starts, 23 team starts and 5 overall titles, which he won from 2013-2017. He received his first major World Cup win in 2011, where he won the gold medal at the World Championships in Oslo. During the same year, he also won the first penalty race in Lillehammer. From 2013-2017, he would secure his title as the most successful German Nordic Combined athlete in the history of the sport. In 2013/2014, he won an Olympic gold medal, his second overall World Cup Title and the newly created Nordic Combined Triple. Only one previous Nordic Combined skier had achieved four World Cup titles up until that point, Finnish skier Hannu Manninen. However, he would break that record the following 2016/2017 season, winning his fifth overall World Cup title and his fourth Nordic Combined Triple. After his record-breaking 2017 World Cup season, Frenzel received the Golden Ski award from the German Ski Association. Considering his young age, it is only natural to think about how many more World Cup titles, Nordic Combined Triples and Olympic gold medals this talented Nordic Combined skier will receive.
