How To Figure Out If You Have A Warm Or Cold Skin Tone

What is my skin tone?

As far as beauty and fashion are concerned, the ability to tell your skin tone is indeed very important. This will not only help you select the best makeup to wear, but will help you match your hair as well as jewelry. Thankfully, telling if your skin tone is either a warm skin tone or a cold skin tone is very easy.

Apart from using your skin color to find out your exact skin tone, there are quite a number of other ways you can go about it. For instance, the color of your veins can go a long way in telling your skin tone correctly. And that’s just one of the many ways you can go about doing this. To be frank, there is no right or best way to tell your skin tone.

Therefore, it’s always a good idea to go with whatever works best for you. And once you’ve realized your skin tone or that of your baby, it is important to make the necessary steps towards using the right products for your skin tone. Without further ado, here are ways to tell whether your skin tone is warm or cold without any mishaps:

1. The color of your veins can tell your skin tone

And once you’ve realized your skin tone or that of your baby, it is important to make the necessary steps towards using the right products for your skin tone. Without further ado, here are ways to tell whether your skin tone is warm or cold without any mishaps:

2. What hair color looks good on your skin tone?

People with neutral skin tones have the advantage of rocking just about any hair color or style and have it effortlessly complementing their skin. Unfortunately, this doesn’t apply to the warm and cold skin tones. For instance, people with warm skin tones will only look good in blonde, brown or black hair (with platinum tones) related coiffures.

In most cases, these specific hair colors for warm skin tones can only mix with a number of eye color combos. The same rule of combinations applies to both the adult and the baby with no exceptions whatsoever. Just be keen and you’ll know their skin tone. Hairs such as amber, brown, hazel are most likely to match with cold skin tones.

Even though they’ll never admit it, experienced makeup artists and hairdressers always check for their clients’ skin tones before recommending a new hairdo. And the best thing knowing your skin tone is that once you get it right, you won’t have to bother yourself with the subject again. Skin tones never change.

Also, you might want to use your hair color to tell what kind of make-up you would want to purchase or wear. And again, if this is a tad difficult for you, then don’t hesitate to seek help from the professionals. I am sure your hairdresser or makeup artist and even your dermatologist will not hesitate to sort you out when it comes to skin-related matters.

3. What eye color matches your skin tone?

Just like it’s the case with hair color, you can also use the color of your pupils to easily tell if your skin tone is either warm or cold. For example, people with green, grey or blue eyes/pupil are most likely to have cold skin tones. On top of this, the “cold skins” normally have blonde, brown or black hair – where their black hair may or may not come with platinum tones.

These cold skin toned individuals can also switch up their contact lenses and still look good as long as the lenses are of the above-mentioned colors. On the other side, the warm skin tone types come with amber, brown, or hazel eyes – which will only accentuate their beauty. Some of the hair colors that will effortlessly look good with these eye colors include Auburn, strawberry blonde, black or gold hair.

Just like their cold skin counterparts, warm skins can pretty much juggle up between these hairs or wigs of the above-mentioned colors and still look good. Guess what I am trying to say is that if you don’t take a keen interest in identifying and complementing your skin tone, or undertone types, then you might end up suffering a great deal. And one way of suffering will be just looking ‘off’ at all times.

4. Outfits colors that complement your skin tone

The same criteria can be used when it comes to the outfits you wear. So, how does this work? Well, it’s pretty darn simple. Those who are cold skin-toned usually and effortlessly look good in specific colors as opposed to others. And the same applies to the warm skins.

For instance, those with cold skin tones always look better in emerald-green, purple and blue outfits. And the good thing about this criterion is that you don’t even have to be a skin-tone expert to pick this up. For instance, if you try out any outfits with the above colors and something looks off, then you probably aren’t a cold skin type.

The outfit colors that look best on a warm skin toned baby or grown up includes red, orange, yellow and olive-green outfits. Again, you don’t really need to have a keen eye for you to know what colors look good on you. And once you’ve identified your skin tone, then you’ll definitely know the best outfits for you without the need to second guess yourself.

If you happen to have a neutral undertone, then you won’t have to worry too much about the colors of your outfits. This is because you’ll always look good in just about anything you wear, which is quite incredible and convenient.

5. Different jewelry for different skin tones

As stated above, you can tell whether you have a cold skin tone or a warm skin tone by simply taking note of the colors that look hella good on you. Thankfully, you can also apply that very same criterion when identifying skin tone types, but only this time you’ll use different jewelry.

For example, if gold looks really good against your skin tone, then you unmistakably have a warm skin tone. If silver looks incredible on you, then you definitely have a cold skin tone. As usual, this criterion will not be necessary for those with a neutral undertone.

As mentioned a couple of times before, this lucky bunch can pretty much wear any piece of jewelry and still look good without even trying. And in case you want to know if you have a cold skin tone, a warm skin tone or a neutral undertone, but are still in conflict, then don’t be afraid to ask your jeweler for assistance.

If not, then you can try the different jewelry and pick out the one that looks the most amazing on you. In the event that you are spoilt for choice, which is usually the case when it comes to buying jewelry, then don’t be afraid to ask a second opinion especially when you haven’t figured your skin tone just yet!

6. The sun skin tone test

At one point, we have all been exposed to more sun than we could handle. What we didn’t know is we could use that rather unpleasant experience to tell whether we are warm skin-toned or cold skin-toned. Unlike the hair or outfit color test, you’ll have to confront the sun in order for you to get this skin tone thing right.

Okay, let’s go back to the time you got “scorched” by the unforgiving sun. Did you burn or did you tan? Well, if you did burn or turned pink, then you are a warm-toned human. But if you tan whenever you’ve been exposed to too much sun than you need, then you are definitely a warm skin type.

Personally, I wouldn’t recommend using this skin tone test because the sun can be unforgiving at times. Therefore, always try using other ways of finding out the right skin tone and never forget to apply sunscreen especially when the sun is out for blood, metaphorically speaking!

And please, for the love of God, don’t try using this skin tone test on a baby! Apart from being extra uncomfortable, prolonged exposure to the sun usually has its fair share of disadvantages, which includes a lowered immune system.

7. The lipstick skin tone test

As mentioned several times above, knowing your skin tone is very easy. And on top of that, there are many ways to tell your skin tone. Therefore, you should always go for the styles that work quite perfectly for you. Just like it’s the case with using hair, outfit or jewelry colors to tell whether you are a warm skin tone or a cold skin tone, you can use lipstick colors to find your answer.

If you are a warm skin-tone, some of the lipstick colors that will look good on you include brown, hazel, strawberry blonde, black or Auburn. However, if you are among the cold skin tone types, then blue, grey, and green lipstick will look hella good on you.

Note that if you happen to be of one skin tone and try a lipstick color that is meant for the other skin tone, then you’ll look as though something is definitely off. Therefore, in order for you to find the right skin tone, you’ll need to carry out the skin tone lipstick test, if we can call it that.

It is also important to note that if you have a neutral undertone, then you’ll look good in all the above lipstick shades. Therefore, if you aren’t sure about your skin tone and by extension, the lipsticks that look best on you, then it’s about time you and your stylistic/makeup artist had a sit down and had that skin tone chat that is seemingly long overdue!

8. Your skin’s general look could tell your skin tone

Just like you can tell your skin tone by the hair color that looks hella good on you, or the baby, it is very possible for you to tell your skin tone using your skin color. For instance, if your skin is a little golden, peachy or yellow, then you can rest assured that your skin tone, or undertone for that matter, is warm.

And you can also confirm that your skin tone is warm by focusing on the outfits or hair color that looks good on you if this skin tone test doesn’t cut it for you. And if your skin appears to be lean pink, blue or red, then chances are that yours is a cool skin tone. There are also chances that your skin tone is neither of the two.

If that happens to be yours or your baby’s case, then chances are that your skin tone is indeed a neutral undertone. And the right way of confirming your skin tone is by trying all the above means just to see what will end up working for you when all is said and done.

9. Ask a friend

Finally!

If you ever have that cool friend who seems to know a lot about fashion, you might want to ask them if your skin is either warm or cold. If they are as good as you, give them credit; then they’ll be able to tell skin tone types apart without even flinching. They might even go ahead and tell you if you are a neutral undertone by simply looking at you, which is more or less very impressive.

10. Ask a professional for assistance

Sometimes telling your skin tone apart might be a tad more difficult than normal. Therefore, the most important thing is making sure you are doing all in your power to ask a professional for assistance. A skin tone professional in this case might be your hair dresser or dermatologist.

Final word

As earlier stated, it is very important to find out what your skin tone is, as there are many types to choose from. That way, you’ll know the right clothes, jewelry, lipstick and even hair to wear. And as stated above, you don’t really have to sweat it because telling your skin tone is just about the easiest thing you’ll ever get to do.
