Kate Capshaw- The Wife Of Steven Spielberg
Kate Capshaw, age 64, born Kathleen Sue Nail, was born in November of 1953. Capshaw did not start off acting after high school. Capshaw attended the University of Missouri, where she was in a sorority and graduated with a degree in education. From there, Capshaw went on to teach special education at Southern Boone County High School in Ashland, Missouri, and Rock Bridge High School in Columbia, Missouri. In 1976, Capshaw married her first husband, Robert Capshaw, they had a seemingly normal life and produced one child, Jessica Capshaw, before their divorce in 1980. Capshaw decided to keep her ex-husband's last name as her stage name. After deciding to venture into acting, Capshaw met her second husband, famous Golden Globe winner, Steven Spielberg. Capshaw met Spielberg after auditioning and getting cast as the lead in his movie "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom." Spielberg is the only son of Leah Posner and Arnold Spielberg. His parents held jobs far from filmmaking, a concert pianist, and electrical engineer respectively. His love for filmmaking started early. He started making films with an 8mm camera his father owned. Most of them had an adventure theme. He eventually moved to California and was signed. That made him one of the youngest directors with a deal that was significantly longer. This occurred at Universal Studios. On one of his first directing jobs, he was met with apprehension and aggression regarding his age and experience, via the stars of the show. Joan Crawford was leading the push against him, but once she had the chance to work with him, it all changed. "When I began to work with Steven, I understood everything. It was immediately obvious to me, and probably everyone else, that here was a young genius. I thought maybe more experience was important, but then I thought of all of those experienced directors who didn't have Steven's intuitive inspiration and who just kept repeating the same old routine performances. That was called 'experience.' I knew then that Steven Spielberg had a brilliant future ahead of him. Hollywood doesn't always recognize talent, but Steven's was not going to be overlooked. I told him so in a note I wrote him. I wrote to Rod Serling, too. I was so grateful that he had approved Steven as the director. I told him he had been totally right." -Joan Crawford
