Katherine Anne Couric is an American journalist and author. Couric recently anchored the 'Yahoo! Global News'. All the three big television networks in the United States have hired Couric to work as a News anchor on several of their shows. Her early career began as an Assignment Editor for CNN. She worked for NBC News from 1989 to 2006, for the CBS News from 2006 to 2011 and for ABC News from 2011 to 2014. Couric has also hosted Katie, which was a syndicated daytime talk show produced by Disney-ABC Domestic Television from 2012 to 2014. Couric gained worldwide recognition for anchoring shows like 'Today', 'CBS Evening News' and '60 Minutes'. In her news anchor career, Couric has almost reported for every television news channel right from ABC, CBS to NBC. She has authored a book in 2011, 'The Best Advice I Ever Got: Lessons from Extraordinary Lives' which was a New York Times best-seller. Couric was born in Arlington, Virginia to parents Elinor Tullie, a homemaker, and John Couric, a public relations executive and news editor at The Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the United Press in Washington, D.C. Couric did her schooling from the Arlington public Schools. She enrolled at her father's alma mater, the University of Virginia, in 1975 and was a Delta Delta Delta sorority sister. Her first job began in 1979 at the ABC News in Washington, D.C. She later joined the CNN as an assignment editor. She even worked for WRC-TV which was owned and operated under NBC. Couric has reported to special events like the BP oil spill, Egyptian Revolution in 2011, Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton. Katie Couric was the only female evening news anchor in the United States until 2009, when Diane Sawyer also joined. Couric left her post as an anchor at CBS Evening News in early 2011. Katie Couric appeared in a documentary 'Under the Gun' in 2016. 'Under the Gun' was about firsthand accounts from parents of Sandy Hook victims, expert commentary and statistics that revealed the state of American gun violence and gun control laws.
