Courtney Bernard Vance was born in 1960. He is a renowned American actor notable for his roles in films like 'Hamburger Hill' and 'The Hunt for Red October'. He is also recognized for his television series, 'Law & Order: Criminal Intent', in which he played the part of Assistant District Attorney, Ron Carver. Vance also appeared in the television series, 'The People v. O.J. Simpson' in which he played the role of Johnnie Cochran. For this role, he won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie. Vance starred on the TNT series, 'The Closer' which was aired from 2010 to 2011. Vance won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a play for his role in 'Lucky Guy'. Vance was born in Detroit, Michigan to parents Leslie Anita and Conroy Vance. His mother was a librarian and his father was a grocery store manager and benefits administrator. Vance completed his schooling from the Detroit Country Day School and he later graduated from Harvard University with a bachelor's degree in arts. During his college years, he was already working as an actor at the Boston Shakespeare company. He got his Master of Fine Arts degree at the Yale School of Drama. It was there that he met his future wife, Angela Bassett. He first met her in 1980. He is currently married to her and has twins with her, son Slater Josiah Vance and daughter, Bronwyn Golden Vance.
