She did a theater internship in Florida and after that she spent many years working temporary jobs while pursuing her dream of becoming a Broadway theater performer. In 1999, she entered the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theatre Workshop and it was here that she decided her career as a lyricist. She also met her future husband, Robert Lopez here. They married in 2003. She had done notable work for younger audiences including numerous short and full-length musical adaptations for Theatreworks USA such as 'Diary of a Worm', 'Fancy Nancy' and 'Condensed Classics'. Anderson-Lopez worked with her husband on the Disney Theatrical Productions stage musical adaptation of the film 'Frozen'. Jennifer Lee wrote the book. On being interviewed after the success of her film Frozen, the interviewer asked Anderson-Lopez whether the film opened the doors for her professionally to which she replied, "Statistically it is very hard for females in our business, female writers and female directors. They did a study. It was the same percentage of female writers who had a production in New York in 2011 as what it was in 1911. There's an institutional bias that goes deep. Women tend to be given jobs based on their experience, and men tend to be given jobs based on their potential. So you have to have experience to have someone take that chance on you, and Frozen doing as well as it did, I think is what allowed me the opportunity. This is my Broadway debut. People think I've been on Broadway already. I haven't. Because it's so hard to break the glass ceiling for female writers in particular." Initially, when Anderson-Lopez collaborated with her husband, they wrote on several songs for children's television shows including, 'Wonder Pets' on Nick Jr and 'Bear' in the Big Blue House on Disney Channel. The duo along with Henry Jackman also wrote and produced music for the 2011 Disney film, 'Winnie the Pooh' for which they were nominated for an Annie Award for Best Music in a Feature Production. Anderson-Lopez and her husband will be writing the music for the sequel, Frozen 2.
