Who is Robert Johansson?
Robert Johansson was born in 1990. He is a Norwegian ski jumper. Johansson is a former Ski Flying World Record 252m set in Vikersund in March, 2017. He won the gold medal for men's jumping at the 2018 Winter Olympics. The Ski Flying World Record 252m holder, Robert Johansson started with his ski jumping career in 2009. He finished fourth in the team competition at the 2009 Junior World Ski Championships and he later, also competed at the 2010 Junior World Ski Championships. In January, 2012, Johansson took his first Continental Cup podium bagging the third place in Neustadt. In March the same year, he won his first Continental Cup race in Kuopio. In the World Cup, Johansson finished once among the top 15, on a 13th place from Kuusamo in November of 2013. He later also managed to win two more top-20 placements in the same season with a 20th and a 19th position from Sapparo in January 2014. At the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, he won a bronze medal in the men's normal hill individual event. While in the event, he competed with a well-manicured handlebar mustache which he had begun growing two years earlier. His mustache attained much popularity in the media. At the 2018 Olympic Winter Games, he launched a 135.0 meter jump. Although it was not the farthest on the day, but it was awarded 131.9 points for a superior landing and a limited help from the wind. "Fantastic day again for me, for sure," he said of his performance. "Two quite stable jumps. I felt I had quite difficult flying conditions in the qualifications, but with the energy from the table, I was able to fly anyway. And of course, I take a lot of confidence from the K90 (the men's normal hill). I feel fantastic and it's a great thing to feel when you are here. I can for sure put out even better jumps. How I'm feeling and my general physical shape, I think I've never been better." The farthest jump of the day went to Japan's Ryoyu Kobayashi, who suddenly shocked everyone at 143.5 meters, taking third place. Previously, his furthest jump of the week was 134 meters only in Wednesday's training session. "It was a big difference," Kobayashi was quoted saying of his surprising jump, "I did a small adjustment and it was a big difference, I do not know why. After winning two bronze medals at the Pyeongchang Olympics, Robert Johansson helped Norway win the large hill team ski jumping title on Monday by winning the gold medal. Johansson leapt at a whopping 136 meters with the final jump as Norway relied on its depth to accrue 1,098.5 points and overwhelm 2014 champion Germany, which finished 22.8 points behind for silver. “I saw that we had 22 points and that made me a bit bothered,” Johansson said. “So I was nervous but I just tried to calm myself and tell myself I could do it and it was a fantastic feeling after.” It’s been quite an Olympics for Johansson, the 27-year-old Lillehammer native with the handle bar red stache. “This is way more than what I expected from my first Olympics,” Johansson said. “It’s a special situation to be in and to top it off with gold in the team event is a dream come true.”

An ode to his incredible moustache
Norway’s Robert Johansson became an international sensation on Friday, not because of his prowess on the slopes and neither because of his incredible bronze-medal winning jumping in the normal hill finals. He gained considerable media coverage because of his extremely well-groomed mustache. Just moments after winning his first career Olympic medal, the topic of conversations was Johansson’s mustache. “I started it two years ago and it’s been good for me,” he told reporters. “I started getting compliments for it and just went with it.” After a while, it got quite long so I decided to see if it was able to make a mustache, and it was, and after this, long story short, I was getting a bit of attention and thought it was fun, and then (it) kind of took off. "I don't feel it in the air, maybe it's kind of (steering) me in the right direction, I don't know."
All Robert Johansson fans can follow him on his Instagram page and Twitter handle.
