Who is Martin Johnsrud Sundby?

Martin Johnsrud Sundby was born in 1984. He is a Norwegian who is into Cross-Country Skiing. He has competed in Cross-Country skiing since 2003. Sundby is a silver medalist of the 2010 Winter Olympics in team relay and a bronze medalist in the 2014 Winter Olympics in the 30 km skiathlon. He is also the first Norwegian to have won the Tour de Ski. In January 2015 Norwegian Ski Federation "was informed that Johnsrud Sundby had crossed the legal limit, the so called 'decision limit', in regard to the use of a drug - Ventolin. On 20 July 2016, Johnsrud Sundby was banned from the competition for two months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) for an anti-doping rule violation. His use of asthma medication salbutamol, resulted in test levels of urine sample. The results exceeded the very high 1000 ng/ml limits which were set in the anti-doping rules by 35% from the two samples collected in competition, on 13 December 2014 and 8 January 2015. Although the facts from his case were undisputed and the decision by the CAS focused on the meaning of the medical term, 'inhaled salbutamol', specifically whether the 1600 μg per day limit referred to the "labelled dose" or the "delivered dose". The CAS panel decided that the intended meaning was that of 'labelled dose' only but criticized the drafting of such a rule. These and certain other reasons like Sundby declaring Salbutamol at the time of the test, made the panel lighten up to his fault and they opted to give him a short suspension. As the tests were taken in competition, the two results were stripped off him. Sundby eventually lost the 2015 Tour de Ski title and the overall World Cup title for the 2014-2015 season. Apart from these stages of the 2015 Tour de Ski, no other results were affected. His short suspension was in the summer months which were outside the competitive skiing season. In the 2016 National Convention of Norwegian Ski Federation, some local representatives gave a critical opinion on the federation having compensated Sundby for his loss of prize money due to his doping violation. He is married to Marieke Heggeland. He and his wife Marieke Heggeland have a son together named Markus. He can speak English and Norwegian languages. He learnt his sport in the club Roa IL under Coach Tor-Arne Hetland. He made his world cup debut in 2005, in Oslo, Norway. Sundby began skiing at the age of 9. In the 2014 Winter Olympics, he got the 13th rank in Men's 15 km at the Cross-Country Skiing. He got the 4th rank in men's 50 Km and a bronze medal at the Men's 30 km skiathlon.
