Jarryd Hughes was born in 1995. He is an Australian snowboarder.

Career of the snowboarder

Jarry Hughes competed at the 2012 FIS Snowboard World Cup as a 16-year-old and was placed 10th at the Stoneham World Cup in Quebec, Canada. Since his debut he has gone on to win a Gold medal and a Silver Medal at the FIS Junior World Championships. He has also won the Lake Louise World Cup in 2013 and represented Australia at the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics. Hughes is still one of the youngest athletes on the World Cup Tour and yet he has been a consistent performer in the top-10 on the World Cup Circuit and been the youngest ever World number-one. In January 2016, Jarryd won Gold medal in the Snowboardcross event at X Games in Aspen Colorado making him the youngest ever winner and the first Australian male to win a Gold Medal at Winter X. He won the Silver Medal at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. As a 17-year-old, Jarryd Hughes made his World Cup debut in February 2012 in Stoneham, Canada, finishing at an impressive seventh. He later, in the following month, made his mark again by winning silver medal at the 2012 Junior World Championships in Sierra Nevada, Spain. He again display his tremendous talent in the January 2013 World Championships placing 11th. In February of that year Hughes underwent the first of five left knee surgeries but was soon back riding high in the Veysonnaz World Cup in March. After missing the 2013 Australian domestic winter season, Hughes bounced back big time onto the World Cup circuit placing 8th in the 2013/14 season opener and later going on to win his first World Cup gold at Lake Louise in Canada. While there was just 200 meters remaining in the Lake Louise final, Hughes piled on the speed, giving himself an unassailable lead, finishing out a clear winner and just ahead of Olympic medal contender Konstantin Schad of Germany. Competing at his first Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Hughes was given the rank of number two in the World on the FIS World Cup Rankings. Hughes had to settle for 17th place after exiting the event in the second round. During the 2014/15 season Hughes showed his immense capability as a world-class rider with eighth and fourth places in the March Veysonnaz, Switzerland World Cups. The main highlight of the 2015/2016 season for Hughes was winning gold at the X-Games in Aspen, USA. Hughes led a historic 1-2 finish, with teammate Alex Pullin in second. His 2016/17 campaign began in December just off the podium in fourth place at Montafon, Austria but the podium beckoned and came to fruition in Feldberg, Germany with a silver, which was an historic 1-2 for for Australia with team mate Pullin taking gold. In December 2017 Hughes claimed his second podium gold at Montafon, Austria.

Here are some interesting facts about the athlete: 1. Proudest sporting moment: His proudest moment so far was winning the X Games. His best sporting memory of the 2016/2017 season was getting second in time trial and fourth in the World Cup at Montafon, Austria. This was the first World Cup for the season and in the training camp leading up to the event he injured his knee and was unable to do any on snow training for the weeks leading up. In total, he had 5 days on snow before this World Cup so it was really special to be able to perform with such limited access to being on snow. It was a testament to the dry land training he does with his strength and conditioning coach Tom Carter. 2. Debut at the sport: He began his sport in 2001 when his parents signed him up for Interschools for International Grammar School to compete in snowboarding even though he had never been on a snowboard! 3. Other hobbies: When he is not training or competing he loves to watch sports and movies. He said in his profile that he loves his sport because according to him everyone would love snowboarding. He loves to eat any sort of music and loves to listen to pop music. Hughes also loves to play Rugby league, Rugby Union, Swimming, UFC, F1, AFL, Tennis, Basketball and Sailing.
