Shoma Uno, aged 20 was born on 17 December 1997, in Aichi Prefecture, Nagoya, Japan. His father Hiroki Shoma was always a great support to him. Shoma Uno has a younger brother Itsuki Uno, 15 years old, a field hockey player. Uno's grandfather, Fujio Uno, is a renowned oil painter. Uno is a student at the Chukyo University, Japan. It is to be noted that he is pursuing his studies whilst being successful at the ice rink. Shoma Uno currently resides with his parents and his younger brother.

Shoma Uno started skating from his 5 years of age. Uno became more passionate about figure skating when Mao Asada, a Japanese figure skater talked to him in the skating rink. Shoma Uno started competing in the sport from 2009. Uno won his first Bronze Medal at Japan 'Junior Championships' for the season 2009 to 2010. In the year 2011, Uno made his debut in 'Junior Grand Prix' claiming another Bronze Medal at the JGP Tallinn Cup in Estonia, Europe. He seemed to be unstoppable since then. In '2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games', Uno made his debut and grabbed a Silver Medal for the individual event and won a Gold Medal for the Team Event.
