The 2018 Olympic Winter Games closing ceremony happened in almost a month ago, but the athletes that managed to win medals and represent their countries are still in celebration. Being on Olympics is a pleasure by itself whether you are a coach, official, spectator or athlete. But being an Olympic medalist is something else more than pleasure. One of the athletes who graced the event was the Norwegian skier who has made all his net worth from the sport, Henrik Kristoffersen. Kristoffersen won a silver medal at the 2018 Olympic Games. The World Cup alpine ski racer took to Instagram and Twitter to celebrate his win with his Norwegian fans. The 23-year-old Henrik Kristoffersen was born in Lorenskog in Akershus county. The skier has specialized in events like slalom and giant slalom. Kristoffersen made his World Cup first appearance in March 2012 in Slovenia and stepped on the podium for the first time in November 2013 after finishing on third place in the slalom race at Levi in Finland. Kristoffersen first became an Olympic medalist in 2014 after he won a bronze medal in slalom and was the youngest male back then to win a medal in Olympicā€™s alpine skiing history. The World Cup alpine ski racer was the first skier to win three classic slalom races in Wengen, Adelboden, and Kitzbuhel, all in just one season. With such a big accomplishment when he was just 21, he became the most successful athlete from Norway in the history of World Cup slalom competition. Another achievement that Kristoffersen has made is becoming the first racer to win six slalom races in one season since Albert Toba did that in the 1992 season. The skier was introduced to the sport by his father when he was just five. His father, Lars Kristoffersen is a former ski racer.

Kristoffersen was happy to take silver

Henrik Kristoffersen is used to being defeated by Marcel Hirscher in giant slalom and it happened again in the 2018 Olympic Winter Games and it didnā€™t diminish his joy of winning a silver medal. The skier took the second position behind Hirscher for the fourth time this season and he conceded that probably that will always be the case. He said that he heard people say that when one takes the second position in the Olympics, they lose the gold but on that day, he won a silver medal. Henrik Kristoffersen acknowledged that marcel was unbeatable in the GS at the moment but promised to train harder and beat him in the future. The skier also stated that he was disappointed with himself for about one and a half hours after the first run and that triggered him to run a lot straighter and with more aggression. With the top 30 running down the slope in reverse order, Kristoffersen was supposed to wait for his nine opponents to come down the slope and hoped that they wouldnā€™t manage to overhaul his time. None of them except Hirscher managed to do so, but Kristoffersen didnā€™t enjoy the experience. He has however enjoyed the success against Hirscher in the past slalom races, but he wasnā€™t yet bored of losing to the Austrian.

Other facts about the skier

He won menā€™s World Cup slalom in 2014

The Norwegian skier burnished the 2014 season with a win at the World Cup menā€™s slalom which was happening in Schladming, Austria. At the time, Kristoffersen was only 19 and he had stepped on the podium for the fourth time that season. He beat the Austrian, Marcel Hirscher and Germanyā€™s Felix Neureuter who took the second and third places respectively. The year before, he had finished at 11th place and it was his first season in World Cup. Kristoffersen moved into the eighth place in menā€™s slalom and the overall standings. The skier had finished the night race in less than two minutes and didnā€™t forget to share his win on Instagram and Twitter.

The Austrian sports ministers apologized to him

Henrik Kristoffersen was in Schladming, Austria in January this year racing and he was against his biggest rival, the Austrian, Marcel Hirscher. Some Austrian spectators began throwing snowballs at him, probably to disrupt his focus and make him lose the race. But they didnā€™t touch reach him and probably he didnā€™t notice. But after he reached the finish line, someone threw him a snowball at close range and he was really mad at it and he expressed his disappointment. The Austrian sports minister watched it on the news and took the opportunity to apologize to the Norwegian skier the next day. The minister, Heinz Christian said that the incident was un unfair behavior that harmed the image of Austria. Kristoffersen said that the projectiles didnā€™t hit him when he was competing with Marcel Hilscher, but the distracted him. Strache apologized on behalf of all Austrians who cared about fairness in sports. Hirscher won the race while Kristoffersen came second.
