Who is Fabian Riessle?

Fabian Riessle is a German Nordic skier who was born in 1990 in St. Maergen near Germany's Black Forest region. Fabian was greatly praised by his coaches for his abilities in cross-country part first and foremost. He was introduced to the Nordic Combined event by his brother Philipp. Riessle first career highlight came in 2010, when he won a team gold medal at his "home" Junior World Championships in Hinterzarten. He also won the overall ranking of the Continental Cup in the same year and has since then been a member of the A-team in the World Cup. Riessle's team mates describe him as someone who is always in a good and happy mood but is also focused and ambitious. His got breakthrough took place in 2011/2012 when took his first two podiums and an overall rank 14. He captured an individual bronze medal at the Olympics Games in Sochi when he along with his teammates Johannes Rydzek and Bjorn Kircheisen who collided in the last turns before the finish. Riessle along with his team also brought home a silver medal. Rissle won an individual podium seven times in 2014/2015 season and also won the gold medal in team pursuit at the World Championships in Falun. He finished fourth in the World Cup overall standings. His first individual victory in Lillehammer in December of 2015. In his spare time, Riessle, who is called "Rio" by his friends, likes to indulge in snowboarding, listening to music and meeting friends. At the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi he earned a bronze medal in the individual large hill/10 km competition. He came in 9th in ski jump just behind the leader, teammate Eric Frenzel. On 20 March 2014, Riessle together with Bjorn Kircheisen, Johannes Rydzek, and Eric Frenzel together won the silver medal in the team pursuit. He can speak English and German and he works for the Armed Forces. He trained in the club SZ Breitnau in Germany under coach Hermann Weinbuch who is on a national level. His older brother Philipp, competed in Nordic combined at international level, and his younger sister Lena also participated in biathlon at the 2015 European Youth Olympic Festival in Burserberg, Austria. Riessle made his World Cup Debut - 2009 in Schonach, Germany. In July 2012 he broke his upper arm in a training crash in Courchevel, France. He was unable to compete for two months. In 2006 he had suffered a fractured ankle. He began the sport in 1999 because he followed his older brother Philipp into the sport. Riessle considers the German Nordic combined athlete Georg Hettich as his hero. His philosophy is "Just for fun." Fabian Riessle won a gold medal in Team LH at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. He also won a silver medal in individual LH in 2018 Olympic Winter Games.
