Who is Livo Niskanen?

Livo Henrik Niskanen is a Finnish cross-country skier who was born in 1992. Niskanen won the gold medal in men's team sprint event at the 2014 Winter Olympics along with Sami Jauhojarvi. He also won a gold medal in men's 50 kilometre classical event at the 2018 Winter Olympic Games. In Nordic World Ski Championships 2017, Niskanen won the bronze medal in Team sprint and also a gold medal in 15 km classical. In the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, Niskanen made himself and his country proud by becoming the Olympic champion on the 50 km classical mass start event. Niskanen's sister, Kerttu is also a cross-country skier. She is a double silver medalist from the 2014 Winter Olympics. Livo Niskanen has another sister Katri who is also highly regarded Finnish fashion designer. Niskanen is nicknamed Balotelli by his friends and family and he speaks English and Finnish. He trained in the club Vuokatti ski team under coach Olli Ohtosen on a personal level and Heikki Korhonen who is also a personal level coach. He also took some training under coach Reijo Jylha who is a national level coach. His older sister Kerttu has represented Finland in cross-country skiing. He made his World Cup Debut - 2011 in Lahti, Finland. He suffered from a virus at the beginning of the 2013/14 season and was unable to train for two months. He returned to full training in November 2013. Niskanen took up the sport because he enjoyed skiing when he was a child and says that skiing allows him to be successful. In 2017 he was named Athlete of the Year at the Finnish Sports Gala. Niskanen is very fond of horses and co-owns a race horse [harness racing] called Victory Bonsai with coach Heikki Korhonen and Kari Lahdekorvi. Finland's Iivo Niskanen managed to claim gold a medal in the cross-country skiing men’s 50km ahead of Alexander Bolshunov, who took silver medal for the Olympic Athletes from Russia. Bolshunov, 21, was overtaken by Niskanen and Niskanen himself led for the majority of the race - with just over a km to go, and finally, the Finn crossed the line in 2:08:22.1, which was a comfortable 18.7 seconds ahead to add to the gold medal he won at Sochi 2014 Olympic Games in the team sprint.
