Who is Michael Matt?

Michael Matt was born on May 13, 1993. He is an Austrian World Cup athlete who competes in alpine skiing. Hailing from Zams, Tyrol, he participates in the Slalom discipline and has competed in two World Championships. His World Cup debut was made at the age of 20 in the Levi slalom in November 2013 when he raced alongside his brother Mario. He also competed at the 2015 World Championships in Beaver Creek, where Matt raced in the slalom but failed to finish his second run. Matt claimed his first World Cup podium in Finland by becoming the runner-up at Levi on 13 November 2016, and managed to celebrate his first victory on 5th of March, 2017 in Slovenia at Kranjska Gora. At the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, Matt completed the first run of the slalom competition in 12th place and later moved up to third after the second run, thereby getting himself the bronze medal. He was also part of the Austrian team which took a silver medal in the team event. Matt's brother is an Olympic Champion too. Mario Matt is the double FIS World and Olympic Champion. His other brother Andreas Matt is ski cross World Champion. In 2001, at the age of eight, Matt was once buried by an avalanche, but he was pulled out later. Matt is nicknamed as Michi by his friends. He loves to indulge in Hiking, motorbikes, cycling. The athlete can speak English and German languages. He trained in the club SC Flirsch in Austria under coach Marko Pfeifer who is on a national level. His older brother Mario Matt represented Austria in alpine skiing, winning a gold medal in the slalom at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi. His older brother Andreas Matt won a silver medal in ski cross at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. He took up the sport in 1996 at age three. His most memorable achievement is finishing first in the slalom at the 2017 World Cup event in Kranjska Gora, Slovenia. He believes in the philosophy, "Give your best." Michael Matt won a bronze medal in slalom at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games. He also won a silver medal in the team event at the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.
