Cudlitz was born on Long Island, New York but raised in Lakewood Township, New Jersey. He graduated in 1982 from Lakewood High School. He holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the California Institute of the Arts, from where he graduated in the year 1990. Cudlitz is married to Rachael Cudlitz. The two met while they were studying at the California Institute of Arts. They have twin sons, Max and Mason who were born on February 12th, 1997, in Los Angeles, California.
