Interview with the young actor

Julian Dennison was recently interviewed about his film, 'Hunt for the Wilderpeople'. Not only did he impress the writer with his perceptions of the film industry, but it was fascinating to see the show business from the eyes of a 16-year old. The interviewer first asked him about entering the industry and if he found any misconceptions about being an actor. To this he replied, that he heard a lot of comments about actors being demanding and not really down to earth but after his personal experience working with Sam Neil as well as others, he found that the opposite was really true. Most actors are in fact, really down to earth and loving. After Dennison's film, 'Hunt for the Wilderpeople' earned rave reviews at the Sundance Film Festival, the writer also wanted to know the actor's opinion of the night. He said, "It was really good, I loved the premiere. You could hear the laughter from everywhere – a lot of good reaction, you could hear the laughter from miles away. My favorite part was being there with all the crew, seeing everyone’s reactions and being stopped in the street afterwards by people saying “we love you”." The person conducting the interview then asked Dennison about social media. He wanted to know what might happen to him following the success of his film, to which he replied that his following would now sky rocket. He was sure that his country, New Zealand, would love the film because it was family friendly and good to watch with kids. Families were sure to share a laugh or two while watching the film in the theater. He was also asked if there are some aspects of the film industry which the general public don't get to watch or have any idea about, to which, he replied, "You can’t just throw money at the script and expect a result. Making the film was really interesting. It’s not just having a camera; it’s having a cast. It’s a lot more about editing and lighting and sound effects. I loved seeing the dedication of all of the people involved, the animals and appreciating the little things that pull a film together." He was also asked whether he always wanted to be an actor, to which he replied, that his first film role just happened sort of happened. He also expressed an interest in someday even directing a film all on his own. He earned his role in 'Hunt for the Wilderpeople', he said, because he had done the drunk driving promotion with Taika Waititi. He got the call to start filming and it was very surprising for him at that time as he hadn't had the audition and yet. They wanted him to start with filming right away which to this young man was both scary and exciting. Such a clever analysis and such deep conceptions coming from a 16-year old did impress everyone. Julian Dennison, you have a long way to go ahead and may you have a rocking career and a fabulous life ahead!
