He is an American actor best known for his roles as Buffalo Bill in 'The Silence of the Lambs' and as Captain Leland Stottlemeyer in the television series 'Monk'. Levine was born in Bellaire, Ohio to parents Charlotte Virginia and Milton Dmitri Levine. Both of his parents were doctors and also members of 'Physicians for Social Responsibility.' He calls himself as a "Hillbilly Jew" because he's part Jewish his fathers' side of the family. He was raised in Oak Park, Illinois and in 1975, he learned he had been admitted to Marlboro College. He became a regular in the Chicago theater scene and also joined the Remains Theater which was co-founded by Gary Cole and William Petersen.
