What is Baby Shower?

A baby shower can really help you feel less overwhelmed by equipping you with a lot of what you'll need when the baby arrives. The baby shower is a way to celebrate the pending or recent birth of a child by presenting gifts to the mother at a party, whereas other cultures host a baby shower to celebrate the transformation of a woman into a mother. It is a bit different from some other parties because it's typically not something you throw for yourself. Usually, a close friend, a co-worker, or a relative organizes it.

1. Free Dobby

What you need is a large poster with “Free the House Elves!” written on it, and a basket. When you send out your Harry Potter-themed shower invites, make a note that guests should bring a pair of baby socks, to “free the house elves.” Those who read the series will understand, and everyone else will have fun choosing the most adorable pair of socks for the baby anyway. As you are setting up, place the basket on a table and hang the poster over it. This is one of those baby shower games you don’t really “play”—but it is fun anyway. Have guests deposit their baby socks in the basket, and at the end of the shower, present the sock stash to the mom-to-be who will soon appreciate them once her little one arrives.

Now, if Disney-themed baby shower games are more interesting and exciting for a mom-to-be as it will not only remind her of her childhood but will make her feel like a queen as well. Side by side, if the nursery is already decorated with Dumbo ears, fairytale decorations then this one is a treat. Draw a line down the middle of a sheet of paper. On the left side, make a list of the names of Disney moms and leave the right side blank. Make enough copies for all your guests. Ask your guests to write the correct kid’s name next to each mom. 3. Art for Baby

For this unique game, you will need some mini canvas or one large canvas, markers, paint and decorative crafts items such as glitter and stickers. Set up supplies on a large table. You might want to line the table with old newspapers or a disposable tablecloth for easy clean-up. This one is really more of a keepsake-maker than a proper game, but it is interactive and fun all the same. Invite guests to decorate the canvas with either images or witty, inspirational sayings appropriate for baby’s nursery. It is a unique gift for both mom and the baby.

Write your questions and her answers down on a sheet of paper, and do not show anyone. Go down the list of questions and have the guests write their answers down on paper. Whoever has the highest number of correct answers wins. Most of the time, the baby shower focuses on welcoming the little guy or girl, so this game will be really engaging as it focuses on the mother. The one who deserves the true honour.

Collect all the notecards and present them to the new mom by the end of the party. They are a great way to help her scrapbook baby’s first year.

Give each guest a frozen block of ice with the baby inside. Guests have to try to melt the ice and get their plastic baby out. They can do this in any way they can think of. Whoever gets their baby out first is the winner. It will be a game to watch the ladies chisel their way to their water breaking. But hint: Do not allow hot beverages on the table during the game. Straws and pacifiers with handles are the materials you will need for this game. Before the party, you do not need any preparation for this one. Separate guests into teams of four or five and have them stand in a line with a straw in their mouths. The first person in line puts the pacifier onto their straw. When the host says “go!” the first person passes the pacifier to the next person in line, straw to straw, no hands allowed. Have them continue down the line. Whichever team reaches the end of the line first wins.

Once the first person has done this, the second person on each team does the same, then the third, and so on. Once all team members have balloons under their shirts, the first person must pop their balloon, then the second, and third, etc. The team who blows up and pops their balloons the fastest wins.
