Your guide to how collagen for hair growth works

Does collagen help with hair growth?

Remember when we tackled collagen in a previous post? We found out that collagen is the most abundant protein in our body and it is essential in keeping our skin youthful. We then discovered how collagen can be incorporated into our diets. Today, collagen is back. But this time, we’re looking into collagen and our hair.

Collagen is critical in renewing cells that strengthen and maintain the elasticity of our bones, joints, skin, internal organs, nails, and yes, you guessed right, our hair. Unfortunately, when we reach our thirties, this collagen starts to decrease. This is when we start to see lines and wrinkles, and feel rigid and weak.

Having thick and healthy hair even when we reach our 40s and 50s would be awesome. In order to compensate for a collagen deficiency, there are many supplements and food sources that contain collagen that promote hair growth.

It is being discovered that ingesting collagen instead of just applying them on the skin in the form of creams is more effective. The simplest form of collagen intake is Vitamin C. This nutrient is essential in boosting the body’s ability to produce collagen. Other foods that are collagen production boosters are cabbages, red fruits, carrots and other vegetables.

So how does collagen work when it comes to hair growth? Through the antioxidants it possesses, free radicals in the body are eliminated. These free radicals are responsible for damaging hair follicles that lead to hair loss. The introduction of collagen into our systems also improve the volume of our hair because of the actual diameter of each strand increases.

Before and after of using collagen for hair

We already know that collagen is good for the hair. But just how good? The following are some before and after experiences of people who have tried collagen in different forms, whether through supplements or more natural sources.

I’ve always had really long hair, but I impulsively chopped it off about a year and a half ago and have been desperately trying to grow it out ever since. As it turns out, collagen powder is what my hair has been waiting for. Before diving into this experiment, I had no idea that the supplement could actually aid in hair growth. But, after about three weeks of taking the powdered supplement every day, I began to notice a substantial difference in my hair growth. When supercharged with collagen powder, it appeared as though my hair was growing faster than ever before. And that’s not all. In addition to hair growth, I also noticed a difference in my hair’s texture and shine. Thanks to its ability to naturally nourish, my hair appeared ultra shiny and smooth, with a silky soft texture.

I noticed that my hair felt fuller and definitely grew in length faster than it had during the same previous time period. Having lost a bunch of hair after Tommy was born, this was a welcome change and something I wanted. My hair just felt stronger than it had over the past year.

Really cool if you ask me. Because collagen really did transform my hair. I went from having really fragile, damaged hair to strong, healthy hair in just a matter of a few months. I used to have a big clump of hair in the shower drain after every shower – ugh! After seeing that huge clump of hair after each shower, I was always amazed that I had any hair left! But since supplementing with collagen and applying this once a month Collagen Hair Mask, I don’t have any hair in the shower drain anymore. It’s crazy. That’s how awesome it works! I also rarely have split ends anymore, my hair has so much more volume and wait for it…..no more frizz!!!! For us curly haired girls, that is a small miracle 🙂
