10 Ways to Build a Successful and Romantic Relationship

The definition of a Romantic Relationship

Here you are in a relationship and wondering how to spice it up and prolong your dating phase? Do you and your partner still have a blissful relationship even after a long period of dating? Or maybe, you are single and looking for someone to rock each other’s world with?

Well, finding the perfect match is something we all hope to achieve. But, once we get that “knight in shining armor”, making the fiery spark of romance last is something that we constantly think about, yet only a few couples will manage to accomplish. What many most of us may not know, is what it means to have romance in our love life while in a relationship.

Romance is the cause of the butterflies in your stomach whenever you see or get touched by your partner. It helps to keep love fresh and exciting, thus, bringing about a romantic relationship.

A romantic relationship is one where two partners love, trust, respect and understand one another, yet, maintain their own identity. This means that both partners have a mutual commitment and desire towards each other. They are able to overlook each other’s flaws, settle conflicts and coexist peacefully.

While romantic relationships may not always be the same as intimate relationships, they still require intimacy to remain successful. This does not necessarily concern sexual intimacy, as being intimate may involve connecting with someone in a deeper way.

However, for most of us, creating those magical moments with our partner seems like a hard task. This leads to an unsatisfying, unhappy relationship that lacks the romance that was probably there during the “honeymoon phase” of the relationship.

As such, in order to build a successful and romantic relationship, we often base it on friendship, adventure, love, and other intense emotions. This turns into the kind of relationship where everything turns into oblivion whenever your partner is around you, or when they look into your eyes.

How to start a romantic relationship

This is one question you may often ask yourself – especially if you are single and searching for a significant other. But how do you initiate a romantic relationship with someone you have your sights on or are already acquainted with? Here are ways in which you can use your intimacy goal and individual preferences to start a romantic relationship.

1. Involving them emotionally

In order to start a romantic relationship, you will need to engage your potential partner emotionally. At this stage, communication skills are important as they help you to “break the ice” and jump off the friend zone. Thereafter, involve your potential partner emotionally by making conversations that build his or her attraction towards you.

2. Sending indirect signals

This is a good strategy if you are afraid of taking the risk of approaching your potential partner and facing rejection. However, sending that person who’s caught your sight indirect signals indicating your interest in them can send the wrong message. Thus, it is necessary to know how to catch their attention using your body language.

3. Direct initiation

This is the boldest strategy of approach you can choose to take. It will involve going to face your potential lover and ask for the chance to engage in a romantic relationship with him or her. The downside to this approach is the possibility of facing a rejection right at your face. But if you never try, then you will never find out where this leads to.

4. Involving a third party

A large number of successful romantic relationships started from this approach. It involves having a mutual friend or a family member fix you up with your potential partner. It can also be achieved through dating websites or social media sites.

5. Being passive

This strategy relieves you of emotional risks that are associated with methods like direct initiation. However, it can be a bit of work to pull it off. It involves having others approach you by making yourself attractive and catching their attention.

Despite there being other different ways of starting a romantic relationship, these are the most common ways to successfully start and build a romantic relationship. Take time to look at each approach, its benefits and drawbacks in order to determine the most suitable method to use.

The stages of a romantic relationship

As a romantic relationship grows, it changes and evolves through various stages. How you acted when you and your significant other met may not be the same as how you are five years later into your relationship. So, what causes the change? Or do you and your partner start to fall out of love?

Since change is a constant in life, you and your partner are bound to change, which in turn changes how you relate to each other and eventually, your relationship gets affected as well. So, here are the distinct phases a relationship goes through as it grows.

1. Infatuation stage

It is a stage characterized by understanding and patience as you and your partner mostly perceive the things you share in common. At this stage of intense emotions, as lovers, you often get “weak in the knees” and develop “butterflies in your stomach” due to the build-up of passion and desire for one another.

2. Knowledge stage

As the relationship matures, you start to discover the differences between each other. This brings about the development of intimacy as you begin to get a deeper understanding of one another.

3. Coexistence stage

At this point, deep affection and respect for each other start to develop. Here, you and your partner will look towards spending a lifetime together after spending a period of time together – in the knowledge stage. However, sexual activity may start to decrease as responsibilities increase and routine develops. But, in this stage, both of you are able to settle conflicts whenever they arise.

4. Confidence stage

Here, despite you and your partner living together for a period of time, you will want “reunite with yourself”. At this point, you tend to prefer to do certain activities on your own and focus on yourself.

5. Growth stage

This stage signifies that your relationship has evolved into a more stable and mature state. You and your significant other deepen your relationship after going through the confidence stage alone. Now, you both involve each other in decision-making and other joint projects.

6. Adaptation stage

This is the last stage of a romantic relationship where you and your partner can either develop into something stronger or end things. Here, both of you develop new and different interests, and depending on how you handle the situation together, will determine whether you last or break up.

Knowing these stages while in a relationship enables you to feel at ease as your relationship develops and matures. Thus, you can fully enjoy your relationship as it evolves into the different phases.

Romantic relationship goals envy

While some of us wonder what secrets some couples hold to have long, happy and healthy relationships, we tend to not help but feel envious towards such kind of love. Such couples always look like something out of a fairytale. This makes us forget that happiness is easily achievable. So, what are the insights into achieving relationship goals?

The first thing to do is take time to date and find someone with whom you are compatible and comfortable with. Someone whom you can do fun things together. Take for example Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel who often do fun things together like dress up for Halloween as a couple and support each other in their life’s work such as Timberlake promoting Biel’s writing in his Instagram and Biel promoting Timberlake’s music.

This helps you to discover the various interests you share as you do things together. Also, put in the same energy into your relationship as you would put into your work. Many relationships fail due to the lack of commitment and effort. John Legend and Chrissy Teigen are an example of a committed couple. As a result, the two always prioritize their relationship as they constantly post cute photos of their family and one another as they proclaim their love for each other

In the event of a conflict, solve the disputes skillfully. This involves checking your choice of words. The partner in the wrong should offer their apology while the wronged party accepts it and forgives him or her.

Communication between couples is a relationship goal that is often envied. Maintaining honest and open communication with your lover will go a long way in spicing up the romance in your relationship.

Creating your own couple bubble is also a relationship goal that is envied. An example of one such bubble would be that of Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. One time Reynolds wrote Blake a heartfelt tribute for supporting him through his anxiety. In this essence, their couple bubble is founded on a “we” perspective rather than thinking of “me”.

We loved how they are constantly being cheeky on their comments of each other on their social media, all in good fun and humor!
