Dating a Short Guy: Does Height really Matter in Love

Are there any obstacles dating short guys?

Tall, handsome, well-built and well-established are the qualities women usually fall for. After all getting on your toes to kiss him sounds more romantic than lowering your gaze to even look at his face.
Short is a relative term and there is nothing wrong with dating a guy who seems a little shorter. If you are a person who gives much thought to “what will people say” then believe me people will always say something. Like age, height is also just numbers.

Finding a perfect man or woman is nearly impossible. You have to compromise here and there to make a relationship work. Physical features are significant but there is more to a perfect relationship than mere age or height difference.

Your Biggest Obstacle is "You"

You yourself are your biggest obstacle in getting into a relationship with a shorter guy. If you don’t like the idea of being seen with a man who is a few inches shorter, then nothing can convince you about how good it can be.

What will people say?

Besides social awkwardness, there are hardly any obstacles when it comes to dating shorter men. If he is well established, good looking and has a good heart, don’t give the idea of dating him a second thought.

The Pros and Cons of Dating a Short Guy

Pros:

Here are a few pros and cons of dating a short guy:

1.    Bigger Pool

Considering the number of men failing to fill the perfect height criteria, options simply increase. Looking at the statistics, it becomes obvious that only 14% of men fit the criteria of “ideal” when it comes to the height. So 86% is a huge number considering appealing factors other than height.

2.    Big where it needs to be

Don’t take me wrong on this one. Shorter guys have bigger hearts. Once you get to know them, you will realize that height didn’t matter anyway. Shorter men are as sensible, kind and loyal as men from the other side of the height spectrum.

3.    Shorter men are more accommodating

Shorter men tend to be more accommodating as compared to taller men. They will overcompensate for their “shorter” height in any way possible.

4.    It shows your maturity

If you are tall and your significant other is short, it shows your maturity and sensibility. It shows that you are not a shallow woman who judges a man just by his physical features.

5.    Even science proves that shorter men are best

Studies conducted on relationships prove that short guys are much better than their taller counterparts in several areas. Shorter men contribute more to household chores. They are better financial contributors. They are more committed in their relationships and know how to make relationships work hence a very few percentages end up in divorce.

Cons:

1.    Social Awkwardness

Just like dating older men and women, dating shorter guy is considered socially awkward. From school to college, workplace and relationships, short men are always penalized for their height which is not their fault after all. From judgmental stares to mean remarks, a relationship with a shorter man, no matter how good it is, stays on the radar of mean people.

2.    Awkward Sex

Perfect alignment isn’t possible with a man of shorter height. The tossing and throwing that turns you on might remain a dream with shorter in height partner of yours. However, that may also be an issue caused by body proportions if you have a longer upper body and him, a longer lower body. So, it may all be about playing around and accommodating each other.

3.    People may take you as being desperate

Just because he is short, people might think that you couldn’t wait for the perfect guy and jump for the first man available.  But we know you're looking beyond that and wait, since when what others say matters?

4.    It can be overwhelming

No matter how normal you may feel, it will always be overwhelming. You will always wonder what people might be thinking about your relationship. Height difference will always be lurking at the back of your mind making you feel uncomfortable.

5.    The frustration may end up in a break up

If height difference has become such a big issue that you keep thinking about it all the time ignoring the goods in your relationship, this might not work. Lack of confidence in any relationship is the first step towards break up. If you don’t feel confident with the man just because of his height, you need to re-think your priorities in life.

Tips to Dating a Short Guy

If your dates with your ideal men aren’t going well, try dating a guy you don’t consider ideal; a guy shorter in height than yourself. Getting out of your comfort zone and dating a guy who isn’t considered eligible would be difficult but you might find happily ever after from where you least expect it. Here are a few tips for dating a short guy:

1. Start from the beginning

Try overlooking the height criteria of dating websites. A few inches shorter wouldn’t hurt if you are having a great conversation.

2. Think about your insecurities

If you want to be with a taller guy because you would feel secure with him just because of his height, you need to think again. Height does not promise protection and being short doesn’t mean that he will be unable to keep you safe.

3. Be comfortable and make him feel comfortable

Wearing high heels at the first date would be a deal breaker. But shorter men could be confident men too, and confident men wouldn't mind you wearing heels.

4. Do not bring the topic of height difference unless he wants to talk about it

Some men may not mind, but some might. Unless you and him are both in your comfortest zones, we'll say leave this topic for another day.

5. Cracking jokes about height isn’t a great idea

Get to know each other first and if you think your level of humor matches, crack jokes and laugh together.

6. If you are not sure about your feelings for him, don’t make it very obvious

Get to know him, you might find him much better than your taller partners.

7. Height is just a number

Try to find what’s good about him. His charm, intelligence and compassion would surely compensate for his height in the long run.

8. Be confident

Breaking the stereotype is difficult but not impossible. Being a woman of the modern era, getting over the fears would only portray you as an open-minded woman.

Dating a short guy and wearing heels? What shoes to wear? Does it matter?

Being a tall woman, dating guys who are taller than you would only reduce the number of eligible men. Although dating shorter men has certain drawbacks but it isn’t as bad as most people think. Keeping aside social awkwardness and mean comments, shorter men can be as good partners as taller guys or even better. Not being able to wear heels is considered the biggest hindrance when it comes to building a relationship with a shorter guy. Here are a few questions you need to ask yourself
1.    How much you love your heels and are you ready to part ways with your beloved high heels?
2.    Would you feel comfortable if you are seen with him in your heels?
3.    Does the idea of lowering down to kiss him bother you?
4.    How would he feel if you wear high heels and go out with him?

What shoes to wear?

Heels or no heels, the decision is yours. If you feel comfortable and happy, you can wear any shoes you want. Heels wouldn’t matter if you love the guy no matter how many inches you are apart. If your heels make you feel happy and sexy, don’t give them up for anything. No matter how much you two are happy together people will always judge you from the external outlook. It doesn’t really matter what people think or say. Looking at the celebrity couples like Tom Cruise and Katy Holmes, Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra and many others like them, you will realize that it’s the internal happiness, not the heels that make a difference. Being confident in your own skin and the way you carry yourself with or without heels defines you. Wear whatever makes you feel good, not what looks good on you with your shorter partner.

Conclusion

Every relationship has pros and cons and being a stereotype, dating shorter guy can be difficult as a society always judges you from the appearances but when it comes to love, nothing else matters, even the height. Love is blind, they say, but people are not and they make you realize through their mean remarks but you can cast away the stigma of dating shorter guys by being confident and steadfast. No matter what people think or say, if you have found the love of your life in a man a few inches shorter than yourself, work hard to make it work.
