Dacre Montgomery Stranger Things Audition: RAD

Billy Hargrove AKA Dacre Montgomery had one of the most eye-popping auditions for "Stranger Things." The Australian actor went all out to get the role, and the audition tape has gone viral on YouTube. It's interesting to see the strong choices Dacre Montgomery makes, and it certainly informs his nuanced performance, after booking the role. Any actor's out there that want to know what it takes to become a star on a hit series - look no further.

"I spent a day working on it and got two of my friends to help me. I was so nervous [about] it and wanted it so badly; I made like a short film. And I got in a G-string and danced naked to '80s music with this leather jacket and crazy glasses. That night, Thursday night, I sent it off."

Life Before Stranger Things: Power Rangers

When Dacre Montgomery was fresh out of college, he landed the role of the Red Ranger, AKA Jason Scott, in the new incarnation of "Power Rangers." The role of star quarterback Jason Scott in "Power Rangers" is a far cry from Dacre Montgomery's reality. On the surface, at age 23, Dacre Montgomery is making a career playing the misunderstood teen and all-American heartthrob; but in reality, he's neither of these things - he's Australian and admits he's bad at sports. So, even though Dacre Montgomery has made a career so far playing bad boy Billy Hargrove on Season 2 of "Stranger Things" and Jason Scott in "Power Rangers," growing up in Perth, he struggled with his weight and only recently lost 25lbs, at the suggestion of an agent. He hasn't looked back since. The height of success is measured by the journey to get there and Dacre Montgomery has put the sweat effort into his own metamorphosis, using the experience to layer the inner life of his characters.

"I was really overweight in high school. I didn't play sports, I didn't have many friends. I was trying to bring my experience into a character."

Vital Stats Of Dacre Montgomery

Dacre Montgomery was born on November 22nd, 1994 in Western Australia, to a Canadian mom and a Kiwi father. The fact that Montgomery does a perfect American accent for his bad boy Billy Hargrove has not gone unnoticed by fans and the industry alike. Montgomery has set hearts aflutter world-wide by playing Billy Hargrove and at age 23, has only just begun to achieve notice for his acting. Montgomery stands at 5ft 10 inches and has 1.5 million followers on his Instagram to date since his debut on "Stranger Things," Season 2. Not much of an Instagram or social media follower, this Aussie import prefers to keep a low profile off camera. Montgomery graduated with a Bachelor's in acting from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts in 2015. Shortly after graduation, Montgomery landed the role of the Red Ranger in the reboot of the "Power Rangers" franchise.

"Stranger Things" Season 2 Bad Boy

The kids from Hawkins have more to deal with than the terrifying "Mind Flayer." They have the sultry bad boy and new Hawkins school bully, Billy Hargrove, to tangle with. Montgomery spends his time on set skulking around and in hot pursuit of Max, played by Sadie Sink. Dacre is perfectly cast as the menacing older brother, and there are hints at Billy Hargrove's darker descent into Season 3 of "Stranger Things." Dacre Montgomery can't confirm or deny any storylines, but he can confirm that his character is an official series regular on both Season's 2 and 3.

"The Duffers were like, 'We want somebody like Jack Nicholson in The Shining.' Every day I go to set, I have some sort of new input, like I'll sit down with the Duffers and be like, 'What do you think about this line?' I've got prosthetics, I've got a crazy car, I've got earrings and tats, and it's so wild. My character is unpredictable."

Billy Hargrove Is The Next Heath Ledger

Australia has a tendency to breed amazing talent, but we haven't seen anyone remotely as close to Heath Ledger, as Dacre Montgomery. Like Heath, Dacre Montgomery has the brooding good looks and the instinctual, edgy talent, not to mention he's a scene eater on "Stranger Things," Season 2. You cannot view Dacre Montgomery's audition tape without comparing him to a young Brad Pitt or Heath Ledger; it's apparent and oozing from the edgy-cool start to finish. And the Duffer Brothers saw it too. The show-runners skyped with Dacre Montgomery within 72 hours of viewing his audition tape and offered him the role of Billy Hargrove almost immediately.
