About Vincent Kartheiser's Wife: Alexis Bledel
During season five of Mad Men, Alexis Bledel appears in three episodes as a character named Beth Dawes. Beth is the depressed wife of an insurance salesman who begins a brief affair with Pete Campbell (played by Vincent Kartheiser), before deciding to receive electro-shock therapy to help cure her of her depression. In her final scene with Pete, she doesn't seem to recognize him and Pete, an often detestable character, shares a vulnerable moment with the woman he briefly loved, opening up to her about how damaged he is. Though the romance between Beth and Pete was short-lived, the actors portraying the characters decided to explore their chemistry further off-screen. They got engaged in March 2013, married in June 2014, and a little over a year later, they welcomed their first son into the world. Like his wife, Kartheiser began his career on the WB, starring as Connor on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin-off, Angel. Bledel's WB series, Gilmore Girls, helped put her on the map as part of the mother/daughter relationship that every young girl and their mother could only hope to emulate. Bledel has recently returned to the spotlight with Netflix's Gilmore Girls revival and her work on The Handmaid's Tale. So, let's get to know her a bit better with five fast facts about everything, from her age and net worth, to her behind-the-scenes dating life.
Fact #1: Her Name Isn't Actually Alexis
This kind of seems like the natural place to start. Though she is known as Alexis Bledel to all of her fans, Alexis is her middle name. She was actually born as Kimberly Alexis Bledel on September 16, 1981, meaning that she is currently the age of 36. Her father was born and raised in Argentina, and her mother, though born in Arizona, grew up mostly living in Mexico. As a result, Bledel has said that her parents made the decision to raise her within the context of the Latina culture they knew. In fact, it was entirely a Spanish-speaking household and Bledel didn't learn how to speak English until she started attending school.
Fact #2: Alexis Bledel Started Out As A Model
Hard to believe that someone who has had so much success as an actress actually started out incredibly shy. Bledel was encouraged by her mother to get involved with community theater productions of Our Town and The Wizard of Oz when she was young to help her overcome her shyness. So, there was some involvement in acting from a young age, but modeling was actually her first professional job. Bledel has talked about spending a lot of her high school years travelling for different modeling jobs. In a 2010 interview with Seventeen magazine, Bledel revealed that modeling for Seventeen was actually her first job. The first time she made the jump from modeling to professional acting was her role as Rory Gilmore. Yes, that means Bledel's career-defining performance was also her first acting job ever.
Fact #3: Bledel May Have Dated Both Jess AND Dean
When you watched Gilmore Girls, were you more of a Team Jess or a Team Dean fan? I'll admit, I was actually Team Logan, but we won't get into that here... Jess and Dean were played by Milo Ventimiglia and Jared Padalecki, who have both become huge stars in their own right, one with roles on NBC hits Heroes and This Is Us, and the latter as Sam Winchester on CW's longest running series, Supernatural. It's well-known that Bledel and Ventimiglia had a long-term relationship from 2002 and 2006 that began while working on the show together, but that may not have been only the beau in common with Rory. Casting director, Mara Casey, revealed in a 2016 Life & Style interview that Bledel dated Paladecki as well, and they used to joke about how the show was casting her real-life boyfriends. Today, Bledel is the happy wife to Vincent Kartheiser, but Gilmore Girls fans can reminiscence about the times when the real life Rory and Dean or Rory and Jess (depending on your team, of course) were actually together.

Fact #4: Fans Wanted Bledel To Be in 50 Shades of Grey
Alexis Bledel may be best known as Rory Gilmore, but she's had a lot movie success as well with films like Tuck Everlasting and Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants. However, can you imagine her as the star of the 50 Shades of Grey movie? Well, some fans definitely could and they went so far as to make an unofficial trailer and share it on Youtube, featuring Bledel in the role as Anastasia. They spliced together old clips of the actress in order to create the illusion that she was portraying Christian Grey's lover. In an interview with Elle, Bledel revealed that she was both a little flattered and freaked out by the trailer but hadn't actually had any real conversations about being in the movie. In fact, she hadn't even read the first book until after she saw the fan-made trailer.
Fact #5 Bledel Recently Won Her First Emmy
At the age of 36, Bledel has quietly assembled one of the most impressive resumes of an actress her age. From her timeless work in Gilmore Girls and the recent Netflix revival, to movie roles in films like Tuck Everlasting and Sin City, she has a broad collection of work and a net worth of $9 million. Fans saw a new side of Bledel with her stunning work in Hulu's The Handmaid's Tale. Her character, whose name is Emily but has to go by Ofglen, has one of the most harrowing stories in a show that's full of them. Here, Bledel gives her strongest performance to date. Fans weren't the only ones who noticed, and in 2017, she received an the Outstanding Guest Actress in a Drama Emmy for her work on the show.
