Loving Someone vs. being in Love with Them in a Relationship

The act of loving someone vs being in love

Often these two terms are mistaken to have the same meaning, but in reality they are entirely different. You can love anyone and in many ways too, but the feeling of being in love or falling in love are very rare and hard to describe. Only the people who have experienced something like this can elaborate.

What is love?

You can have your very own definition of love. It can be how you care for someone, when you put in extra effort to make a meal, or clean up the house, dress up nicely etc. Besides your partner, there are so many people you love in your routine. This means that love can be anything you want it to be, it will mould itself to the shape you want it to be.

Difference between loving and being in love

Here are some differences between the two to clear your misconceptions. You might have a new perspective for both after this:

1. The Origin

When you’re in love with someone, this can be as a result of a serious infatuation or obsession. These are intense feelings which will result in something passionate. The same response is from your significant other too. You two make each other whole and this intensifies the feelings even more.

Loving someone on the other hand often seems like the relationship is more inclined towards one side. This is goes beyond mere infatuation or liking someone on their appearance. Usually one person is too much into the other while he/she may not get that in return. But there is definite guarantee of 100 percent love from the committed side.

2. The Graph of the Relationship

When you truly love someone, there is compassion. And with this type of pure emotion, the relationship takes upon slow growth over a longer period of time. There’s no fast forwarding it when you’re talking about true love.

On the other hand, when you’re deeply in love with someone, there’s passion. This passion has its ups and downs and to the extremes. There can be times when you feel like giving up on everything, but then there are times when the clouds clear out and it’s a happy day again.

3. Working on Life Together

Being in love means that you work on your partner’s life goals and ambitions with them. You get to be a part of their success and play a major role in it too. But when you love someone, it’s like cheering them on from the sides. You’re there for them whenever they need you but you don’t exactly share their goals as yours.

4. Wanting them and wanting what’s best for them

Loving someone means thinking about that one particular person throughout the day and always wondering about their well-being. There are no strings attached so you would want the probable best for them in every way, whether it’s the little things like diet, clothing or the big ones like how comfortable their life should be or relieving their stress etc. Whenever you want to put someone else before you, this means that special someone is lucky to have such authentic and pure love.

Being in love is like the energy that usually focuses on the present and everything in the spur of the moment. You want that person, their presence, their affection, you need it and they need it as well. Being around them, in that vicinity, that’s your happy place.

5. The impulse of Love

The feeling of falling and being in love is and impulse. It’s the constant desire, like a force that keeps two people tied up together. You just can’t help it when you’re in love with someone. It just happens.

But you can actually decide to love people in your life. Seems like a difficult choice, often hurts a lot too, but still there are more positive chances of letting someone in or out of your life when you love them.

Signs of falling in Love

When you fall in love, you get a feeling of a major blizzard of feelings and happy emotions hitting you. You lose sense of reality even and fall into a fantasy. Everything seems perfect, as if you’re a part of a romantic movie. Here are some surest signs to look for if you’re wondering whether you’re falling for someone or not.

1. The Unstoppable thoughts

This is the probably really annoying, the constant thoughts about that perfect person. You can’t really get away from your own brain, can you? Even on the busiest of days, your beloved is always on your mind no matter what.

2. You feel nervous around them

Ever feel embarrassed at the little things when you’re around someone? And wanting to be perfect in every way for them? Even if you consider yourself a very confident person, being in love with someone can make you anxious and nervous when you’re around that specific person. You get clumsy, stutter maybe. It’s the whole vibe around that individual that changes you.

3. They’re the first to know everything

No matter what happens I your life, happy or sad, you want him/her to know first. You’ll call them or inform them about the situation as soon as possible, or else that thing will keep bothering you until you spill it out.

4. You’re willing to change yourself

When you’re falling for someone, you want to be the person they want you to be. You will tend to change the very principles of your life that nobody could ever alter. Trying new things, eating outside your comfort food zone, watching movies that aren’t your taste, all this means you’re head over heels falling in love.

5. You start talking like they do

It’s very normal to mimic someone you talk to all day, but this is especially the case when you’re so focused on talking or texting someone that you subconsciously start talking or texting like them. Even the accents and tones can change. If someone tells you that you’ve changed in this matter, think to yourself, who you are falling for.

6. You’re always looking for them

Whether it’s a crowded place, or your everyday work/study place, you’re always looking for that one particular person. If not them then maybe their car/bike. If not that then their friends or colleagues because they can be around there somewhere. Going to places they often visit just so you can run into them. These are all sings for the wise.

How to stop loving someone too much

You might be thinking, why the need? Isn’t love supposed to be so fulfilling that you couldn’t get enough? Most of this is true but with great emotions comes great pain too. This happens when you’re so obsessively into someone that it affects your daily life. If you don‘t get the same love in return, it hurts you even more. So it’s better to bring it down a notch while you still can. Here’s how:

Give yourself space

It is very important to realise that it's never okay to lose yourself completely for someone. You can only give someone your fullest if you're in touch with your inner-self first. For this, purpose, take a little time for you and you alone. Keep a safe distance from the one you love, it's healthy.

Allow yourself to be loved too

The sooner you realize this, the better. All the love in the world you give to someone isn’t worth it, if you don’t feel loved. You’re as important as the person you’re giving all the love to. Think about it and you’ll automatically balance your ‘too much love’ for someone.

It’s okay to have boundaries

Boundaries are only there to protect you and your precious little heart. This doesn’t mean you love someone a little less, but yes, it will stop you from getting all drowned in loving someone which gets your feelings hurt every now and then.

Summary

Love is a beautiful feeling, no matter how you encounter it in your life. This emotion needs to be cherished to the upmost level while it lasts. And in order to keep the love you already have, it needs all the nurturing as if you’re taking care of a sensitive little flower bud, which can either bloom or die, depending on the treatment it has had. But if you’re in love, then you just have to follow your heart, because there is not much you can do about it. The heart wants what it wants.
