We’ve all been there – either our nose feels like a clogged dam of mucus (yuck!) or it feels like a waterfall of mucus. However, if you don’t feel any better after taking a few common cold medications – even as far as after ten days – you may be experiencing chronic sinus. Chronic sinus (or chronic sinusitis) can take over your everyday life if left untreated. It can prevent you from sleeping soundly, leading to sleep-related diseases like insomnia. It’s no better during once you wake up either; you’d be experiencing severe headaches due to mucus build-up and congestion. However, thanks to modern research and experiments – we have no found alternate therapies with little to no side effects for you to manage your sinus.
11 therapies that would help you manage your sinus
1. Your home-made nasal spray
Nasal sprays have long been used for their effectiveness for curing or at least giving temporary relief from sinus-related problems. However, at such times when the world is at a shortage of medical resources, you may or may not find your preferred nasal spray on the shelf of your nearest pharmacy. When ease of buying becomes a problem, what better way to cope up than make your own home into a pharmacy! Making a DIY saline nasal spray includes everyday ingredients you’d find lying around in your kitchen. You’d need:
1/4 pint water
1/4 teaspoon salt
Once you’ve mixed the solution well, pour it into any of your old nasal spray bottles (make sure to wash and clean them first) and you’re good to go!
2. Neti Pot
Using neti pots is also an effective alternative therapy for managing chronic sinus. Many people take advantage of neti pots for cleaning their noses. Neti pots are useful when it comes to keeping the mucous membrane moist while giving relief from pressure accumulated in the sinuses. If you can’t find neti pots locally, don’t worry – they can be found on many websites online! Once you’ve purchased your neti pot, here’s how you could use them:
Step 2: Fill your neti pot with sterile water.
Step 3: Lean over a sink while pushing the spout of the neti pot in your higher nostril.
Step 4: Tilt your head sideways.
Step 5: Breathe through your mouth while pouring water into your nostril.
Step 6: Repeat this process with your other nostril being the higher nostril (tilt the opposite side of your face this time).
You would experience that when water runs from one nostril into the other, it flushes out bacteria, pollen, and other debris.
