We, as a society, tend to label things we don’t agree with or are afraid of. We assign labels and put people in boxes, so making fun of them, and hating them can become easier.

We see high maintenance people be portrayed as unsympathetic jerks, selfish lovers, and self-obsessed people in movies. They're always mean and have no regard for others. However, that isn't the case. As individuals, we are so used to letting people get away with things that when we see someone take a stand for themselves, it seems like they're acting crazy.

I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve been given a wrong order at a restaurant and haven’t said anything about it because I thought the waiter would get in trouble. While being considerate might seem sweet, it was sad that I couldn’t stand up for me. So, now when I send an order back because it's wrong, I don’t mind being called high maintenance because I think everyone should be.

Most of us out there are so accustomed to people not putting any effort in their jobs, relationships, or life that when they do the bare minimum, we think maybe that's how things are supposed to be. However, that shouldn't be the case; we should know our worth and make sure that those around us are aware of it too. That is what high maintenance women do. They know where they stand and make sure they are given what they are due.

They don't let people wing things and demand that they are given their due respect, love, affection, and attention. They settle for nothing less than the best.

Another thing high maintenance women do is see-through people's nonsense. While low maintenance people often let things slide and don’t confront people, high maintenance women call people out.

Whether it's a lie to get out of work or a stupid excuse to hang out with the boys, high maintenance women know when someone's lying, and they aren't afraid to have honest meaningful conversations.

To be honest, they need what any other girlfriend might need; they just won't let you get away without doing it.

The first thing that they need is loyalty. They will give you 100% and will demand the same. While many people hold this against them, I see why it's a bad thing. Everyone wants attention; we all want our partners to give us time and listen to what we have to say; we just let it slide if we don't get it because somewhere deep down, we think that maybe we deserve it. High maintenance women are in touch with themselves and sync with their inner "Bawse" and, therefore, demand what they are owed.

High maintenance girls have a definite sense of boundaries and don’t want their space to be violated. They will not shy away from telling you that you need to step your game up or to give them some space. They need to have time to themselves to maintain a healthy relationship with themselves and others around them.

So, if you’re thinking of asking her for her password to Facebook or Instagram, that isn’t a good idea. If you want to keep her happy, you need to respect her privacy because she will do the same for you. This means not telling her what to wear, what to eat, or who to meet; you should come to terms with the fact that she is her own woman and doesn’t need a price in shining armor to come to her rescue.

Not only do they demand that they get the best, but they also make sure that they give their best at everything too. They aren't afraid to ask for help and don’t care what people will think of them.
