And it seems so much easier than to do that in real life. I get the impression that people are more relaxed on social media than in person.

Hinge is an application that is designed both for Android and IOS ($10.99 per month). It is founded in 2012 by Justin Mcleod. At first, Hinge was a lot like Tinder. Founders of this application changed its philosophy alongside with design that is intended to be more about relationships and interesting conversations. With this application, you get a more detailed profile – that you can fill with pictures, your bio and share your stories. In this way, users can like and comment on something that you posted on your profile which can be a good head start for a conversation that can lead to something more.

Basically, Hinge relies on your Facebook friends to make connections for you (shows you not just the people you have in common, but all the interests you have in common).

The good thing about this application is that if you want to know more about someone, you can just ask your friends. Because this application relies on friends-of-friends (which is great), it can be restricted in a way that you can run out of matches after 15 minutes of browsing.

Hinge IOS

Tinder is developed by Hatch Labs and it has been launched in 2012. This application is location based that allows users to like (swipe right) or dislike (swipe left) other users and allows users to chat if both of them liked each other (this is called a “match”). So, no one can message you, unless you show interest in them too.  Information that is available is based on photographs from Facebook, a short bio that users write about themselves, and if users want a linked Instagram or Spotify account. You can tap on the photo to see additional information regarding the person and Facebook friends you both share (if you sign up using Facebook account).

In 2015, Tinder announced the release of paid service, Tinder Plus which allows unlimited matches (free Tinder application has a limit of numbers of right swipes in a 12-hour period). The price of a Tinder Plus subscription for users over 28 is announced to be $19.99  USD per month; while for users under 28 will be $9.99 USD per month.

Although some people are using Tinder for the swipes, there are actually those that decide to meet in real life which is not always the case with date applications.

Happn is an application founded by Didier Rappaport and it’s released in 2014. It is compatible with Android, iPhone and also Windows. This application shows the profiles of others and pinpoints the last time and place you were near each other. It’s a perfect way to start a conversation when you have something in common, don’t you think so?

It’s quite simple to create a profile. You can add age, profession, photos, and interests. Also, you can write down things you like to do, for example: going to concerts, jogging… Happn has the option to link your other accounts like Instagram and Spotify.

What is specific about Happn is that this app is using GPS so it can track where you have been. Of course, it never shows your location in real time. Happn is functioning in a way that others can’t contact you unless you tap the heart on their profile. Also, you can block users if you re concern about stalkers.

With this application, we have something new and funny. For now, it is compatible with IOS. The main difference between this and other applications is in the way chatting goes. You see, the thing is that you won’t be able to see pictures of your “match” at first. All you will be able to see is a blurred photo with a headline on the top. So, in order to photos, you will have to start talking to other users. And the more and more you chat, the photo becomes clearer.
