What is eHarmony/Match?

Online dating has never been this easy and daunting at the same time, in this digital age there seem to be countless options for singles looking to connect. Some are more successful than others, but wherever you look the two names that keep popping up are eHarmony and Match. They are the top online dating platforms and have been in the game for a very long time. These platforms have had the time and resources to research and come up with a formula that works. If there’s ever a chance for you to find ‘’the one’’ online, eHarmony and Match are your go-to apps.

eHarmony is a sophisticated and beautifully designed online dating website/app that uses science and an advanced algorithm to bring together singles with similar interests. eHarmony has stood the test of time and has fully adapted to the fast-changing online dating scene. Other dating websites have come and gone but this site has racked up impressive results over the years.

Similar to eHarmony, Match.com is another popular online dating platform with a huge database of users searching for a significant other. With Match you have the opportunity to cast a wider net and connect with singles from all over. These are the two most popular dating sites out there, given their high rate of success and a big pool of users, it could be overwhelming to decide which site is superior to the other. To make it easier for you, we will be comparing and contrasting both websites for your sole benefit.

eHarmony vs. Match: Let’s Weigh Our Options

1. Differences in aesthetics

eHarmony has a very unique look, the site in itself is minimalistic but well designed to suggest a chic vibe. The site interface is straight to the point with no distractions, the sole focus is you and your journey to finding love. Once you sign up, create a profile and personalize it, eHarmony does the rest, they take the responsibility to find you a compatible partner. The site makes you feel like the experience has been tailor-made for you and you alone. However, eHarmony’s beautiful design and a sophisticated interface can sometimes be quite intimidating especially to first-time users and those who are not computer literate.

Match on the other hand has a very classic look, the interface is pretty standard for a dating site and it has similar options to Tinder such as swipes and live chats. Match allows you to see who viewed your profile or interacted with it. Match has more frills and advanced search options to help you connect with someone but it is easy to navigate even as a newbie.

Although eHarmony has a unique interface and a sophisticated design it tends to be overwhelming for users who are not tech-savvy. Match on its part is easier to grasp and its simplicity is quite reassuring, the numerous options available are neatly organized to make the average user feel at ease. So when it comes to aesthetics, the trophy goes to:

Winner: Match

2. Profile setup

Registration on eHarmony takes on average an hour to finish when creating a  profile, they have a matching system known as 29 Dimensions of Compatibility. You’re asked a list of questions to help discover your personality and find who best matches you. Though the questions are relatively easy, the process can be exhausting but once you’re done you start getting matches right away. The eHarmony algorithm pairs you with other compatible singles straight away.

With Match, the entire signup process takes anywhere from 20-30 minutes to complete. Like most dating sites, Match offers a step-by-step process for setting up your profile. However, though registration is fast-tracked you have to wait 24 hours for your profile to be approved. And the site takes even longer to get to know you and your preferences before matching you.

Both dating sites have a rather easy registration process especially as they guide you all the way. They’re also similar in that they both require a registration fee but they’re completely different in how they match people, the process used, and the time taken. Here, eHarmony provides more value for your money because they use scientific data to link you to compatible users from the on-set even though it takes an hour to complete your profile, after that you’re all set. The match takes 20 minutes but the waiting period is longer.

Winner: eHarmony

3. Features

eHarmony provides a much more laid back dating experience, you have to rely on their algorithm to find you a partner. Compatibility is determined solely by your response to the questions you answered.  eHarmony’s approach is unique and very data-driven, focusing on personality analysis.

Match offers a much more hands-on dating experience, there are lots of different ways to find potential partners. Match gives the user full control of a variety of options, you can even filter your matches by ethnicity or details like eye color. Match also has features like browsing on private mode where you can look at someone’s profile without them knowing or allowing you to boost your profile. This site has many different search criteria all at your disposal.

There’s no doubt that eHarmony is much more creative and intuitive but its approach is not flexible as it is a science-driven process with no room for a personal touch. While Match is the opposite, it gives you all the freedom you need to find love. There are no limitations, you can search their entire database. The flexibility offered by Match gives an added edge over eHarmony.

5. Functionality

Since both dating platforms are impressively successful, the only way to pick one over the other is to find out which site has more success stories. Statistics reveal that by 2015 eHarmony was responsible for 542 marriages every day in the U.S alone while Match has contributed to 517,000 relationships and 92,000 marriages. The match is also responsible for the birth of about 1 million babies.

Match focuses on what you’re looking for in a partner as well as your search results, this means if you say you’re interested in tall and educated brunettes but spend your time browsing petite blondes, Match will base their search criteria on both as your preferences. They will also let you browse the entire site to see what catches your eye.

eHarmony says they are responsible for 4% of all marriages in the U.S which is not a light feat. eHarmony boasts of their quality of matches, they filter out fake profiles and casual daters to leave you only with committed singles. The number of matches you get from eHarmony is quite small but the quality is top-notch and better than most online dating sites.

''Match.com is one of the better sites because they allow you to select who you want to meet. All sites have inactive members who will never respond to you but Match gave me a better response rate than some other sites. It costs more than some other sites for full features, but you get what you pay for''.

I married The one I met. Almost 10 years now that we have been married. I think the questions, etc. if you answer truthfully it will help out a lot. Process is a bit lengthy but once you get through it it seems to work. Not sure what else to say but try it to see for yourself. I tried Match but that was a big crapshoot. This is all 10 yr ago so not sure how much things have changed since.

So, Which is the Superior Dating App?

After dominating the online dating scene for the last two decades, both sides have proven their worth by bringing together countless couples, they’re both responsible for millions of marriages and relationships. Both sites also have their limitations but after weighing them out it is undeniable that Match is the superior app. Though present in fewer countries than eHarmony, Match has more users and has connected more couples than any other platform out there.

A match is slightly cheaper than eHarmony and offers a larger database of users to find a match from. In addition, while eHarmony caters only to heterosexual singles, Match includes gay and lesbian singles. So the overall winner is definitely Match.com.

Conclusion

Finally, it all comes down to personal preference, both dating apps are superior depending on what you want your dating experience to look like. Some people would rather sit back letting the sophisticated and intelligent eHarmony algorithm do the job of finding them a compatible partner while others prefer to actively take part in the selection process as offered by Match.

There’s no one size fits all approach when it comes to online dating, what works for one person might not work for the next person but either way you can’t go wrong with eHarmony or Match. It all boils down to what you are looking for and how you want to go about achieving it.
